How does this help the Leafs? JP's in Finland and Larsson is on LTIR.

Despite what I've been saying in Leafs AGMs about Dubas needing to be ready to throw everything and the kitchen sink at improving the Leafs before it's too late, conversely, there shouldn't be a team lining up to help them until they're really ready to pay out of the nose to fix their roster.

I'd decline this for a couple reasons: the Leafs aren't moving both Kapanen and Barrie this season, so immediately the trade is beyond unrealistic. I also don't think moving Larsson should happen this season and that Edmonton should be looking to add him to Klefbom's right on the second pair. Having a stronger blueline - even marginally - than what they have today makes them better equipped for the playoffs. Now if the Leafs still want to go in on Larsson after underperforming again and are willing to part with Robertson and their 2nd Round Pick (like some reeeeeeeeal desperation sh*t), then I'm all ears.

Larsson comes back in a week, JP has Dec. 1 to sign. Maybe he'll come back to play for the Leafs??

Barrie has been terrible so I would welcome 1.5 years of Larsson, but at the price of Kapanen JP? He was barely NHL material previously.

It's more like Kapanen for Larsson (TML wins this slightly since Larsson would be more valuable to TML than Kapanen is) and then the terrible play of Barrie for JP who has his whole career ahead of him to figure out how to be worthy of a 4th overall. I've always said TML has one of the best forward groups in the NHL, JP could play with Matthews, Tavares, or Kerfoot and resurrect his career. And if he does that, then TML would only win the trade even more. Might be worth a shot now given Barrie's terrible play and JP's potential.

Barrie has struggled sure, but historically he’s a better D than larsson. Having larsson signed for an extra year does add some value but not enough. Kap >>>>> JP

Love this trade from the Oilers, would think that Leafs would want a little more, seeing as that JP is likely not playing in the NHL this year. Maybe add a pick and a a forward that can play this year.

Value isn't as far off as some seem to think. Barrie has 60 games left before being a free agent, and unless there is some drastic contracts moved out, I don' think the Oil could afford to resign him. Larsson has another year left, plus his cap hit is low. He's a much different player than Barrie, but his game still has value. Kapanen is an impact forward, so Leafs would definitely need more though
