COL
  1. Barrie, Tyson
Additional Details:
Could probably get Barrie back as a rental for very cheap if he keeps playing like this. Shelter him a 5v5 and use him as a PP specialist either with Makar on PP1 or with Girard on PP2. COL should not re-sign him but he could be a good add for the playoffs

Its not worth it for the Leafs to trade him (especially not back to COL) if its for "very cheap". They aren't looking to recoup assets. They are trying to compete. Regardless of how they do, they are in win now mode too.

If you want to give the Leafs Alex Newhook or something than sure.

You also can’t trade for a player you retained salary on within the same season.

What's your take on Barrie as a player, Moli92? Expectations seemed pretty high when the leafs landed him in that trade but it's hard not see that he's struggled with leafs. I don't know if thats because of how he's being used in his role, if it's just getting used to a new team/system or if that's what he is as a defenseman. I never really got a chance to see him play much til he landed in Toronto.

hes very good offensively but hes bad defensively. The leafs arent using him properly right now. He should be on PP1 and should be getting 65+% of his shifts in the offensive zone - thats his role (he had about 72% offensive zone starts in all situations last season). Babcock only starts him in the offensive zone 57% of the time and also took away a lot of PP time from him. No wonder his shots and points are way down. He should take risks (pinch deep in the offensive zone, make stretch breakout passes, carry the puck out of the D zone and rush into the O zone, etc) to make offensive plays but it seems like he either lost confidence to do that or the coaches told him not to do that.

Yeah, that's how I'm kinda seeing things, too. Barrie seemed alot like the player you described in his first few games as a leaf and its kinda been down hill since then. I dunno he looks a bit lost out there right now. I think you're right - he's been told to not play the game that works for him.

I can see Barrie requesting a trade at this rate. It's not a good look for him to be struggling in a contract year. If he gets traded I suspect he'll turn back into the player he was before he became a leaf. The guy didn't forget how to play hockey after 500 nhl games
