Good trade for Leafs but do not think they could expect any assets in return.

That's a big part of the problem right there. Babcock's success has come with the Canadian Olympic Team and a stacked Detroit team. If that's the quality of a roster he needs to win then the leafs aren't winning anything in a cap world and with Babcock at the helm.

I agree - ive always believed Babcock is overrated. I don't know what's taking so long to fire him.

But that was also when you could have 2 checking lines and win.

I think its probably getting close. My guess is that there could be some internal politics going on and a general desire that the situation will resolve itself so they can avoid all the media headaches that go with sacking Babcock. I doubt they can dodge that bullet much longer

That's the other big part of the problem. The game has changed and Babcock hasn't . And, if accurate, Mike Commodore has shared what is probably the biggest part of the problem.

He’s such an a**hole. I don’t get how he went from playing Marceau like he’s a 1st line caliber winger in the playoffs to scratching spezza for the home opener after he bought tickets for his family

I had a listen to the Mike Commodore podcast interview where he rips into Babcock. Think it was about 8 mins or so. It gave me some good chuckles...

But if everything he was saying was true then it paints Babcock as a pretty problematic kind of guy.. and if Commodores take is accurate then Babcock needs to go - like yesterday

I think its easy to blame the coach but you know maybe they need a young guy who can massage some egos. I dont think the injurys have helped or how the teams been assembled

Yeah, I think that's generally fair that it's easy to blame the coach. But not in this case. Babcock comes with all sorts of credentials and he was a big part of what fast tracked the team after they tanked. And mighta been the perfect coach for the first couple of years. But it's gotten pretty obvious that he's a big part of the problem right now. And credentials or not, he's not putting up the results , hasn't since about this time last year, and their regressing this year. He'd be a tough guy to fire just on optics alone but it seems like his time is pretty close.

I'd say the last thing this group needs is someone to massage their egos. That ego thing is also a big part of the problem, imo. But it might not hurt to have a new guy saying they need to be checked at the door. That should include the coach too.

You could be right with the roster construction. But I'd say it's almost impossible to really get a sense of what this team is with Babcock at the helm. I think the difference in how Dubas and Babcock envision a hockey club is another big part of the problem. Usually a coach goes before the GM. If the next guy doesn't get any better results than Babs then Dubas's vision, roster construction and cap structure are all going to increasingly come into question.
