The first chip to fall

Created by: Claesson4Norris
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 18, 2019
Published: Nov. 18, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Logan Brown establishing himself as a top 6 centre has pushed Chris Tierney to the 4th line, and made him expendable. Sens are better off trading him now, and calling JC Beaudin back up, who was a surprisingly solid 4C in his time I'm Ottawa.

I agree we should trade Tierney, but as an RFA I'd think he has a little more value than that.

Agree, If Tierney was a UFA at the end of the year, I think thats his value. The Sens could get a middling prospect along with the picks (which they need to fill out the AHL or allow Braanstrom to go down)

Honestly I didn't put much thought into the actual trade. Post was more about what the lineup could look like post Tierney.

I like the forward lines but I really, really, really want Demelo back with Chabot. At the very least it will boost his trade value at the TDL if he doesn't get resigned (i hope he does)

Ideally I think you would have DeMelo with Chabot, I don't think it's in the cards, at least not with the current personnel. Zaitsev is DJ's go to guy, playing as much or more than Chabot most nights, so he isn't coming out of the top 4, and I cannot see a world where a Borowiecki-Hainsey pairing turns out well.

Maybe once Wolanin is back you could do something like
Chabot-DeMelo
Wolanin-Zaitsev
Brannstrom-Hainsey
But otherwise it seems unlikely.

Ideally I would use the following pairs (I know it wont happen):

Chabot-Demelo
Brannstrom-Zaitsev
Hainsey-Jaros
Boro is the spare (Goloubef sent down)

Best case scenario would be you trade Hainsey, and Borowiecki-Jaros is the 3rd pair. I have a hard time justifying not playing him. He's been great this season.

That's been a big if the last few years....

But when he is playing, he's looked great though. He's skating well, backchecking really hard, and his vision and passing abilities are really translating well to the NHL. At least once a game he makes a pass that makes me jump off the couch. Only three assists, but he could easily have added a few goals as well. He's flubbed a couple of wide open nets.

I've always been in on Brown's skills, but I wasn't sure it was ever going to translate. This as been a really promising start. If he can find a role for himself as a top line center, even if it's more of a "Kyle Turris 1b" situation, that would be huge for the organization.

Honestly, I didn't realize how good his visions and hands were until this year. I now see why Ottawa Front office have high hopes for him. He's got the tools to be a great, even maybe an Elite Center in the league (Especially with his size). It's just hard to develop when you're sitting on IR.

The Ideal situation would be to have Brown and the "2020 1st round pick" has your 1a+b, Norris or white has your 3rd line center and pageau has your pk1 / shut down guy / 4th line center.

I think in a perfect world you have Byfield-Brown-Norris and move White to either 1 or 2RW. Have him with a lefty Center and have them both take draws on their strong side.

If Pageau wants to come back to Ottawa after the deadline, then he'd be a perfect 4C. If it comes down between signing him OR trading him, then you have to trade him.
