Leafs are desperate for change. The team is 29-26-10 in 2019 which would be a 85 point season. They have only beaten the worst teams in regulation. They need a physical player and Risto does that for them.

risto isnt good though. he has some offensive talents, but he's terrible defensively. He get's a ton of hits because he's so bad defensively

That is just not true. He is good defensively he is just not good at the breakout passes. He is paired with good passer then he will excel.

If count the leaf factor then he prolly is. But in the real world Nylander struggles in his own zone, he can go games where he just a no show, and even playing with elite center he is still only a 60 point winger.

Desperate for change doesn't mean trading someone who is actually playing pretty good. Matthews and Nylander has been great together throughout their NHL careers. I'm not a Leafs fan but I wouldn't mess with those two. Also, Risto is not the answer to their problems at defense. His defensive game isn't really special. They have way too many D's who aren't that good in their own zone

Nylander is still only on pace for 63 points. ALso, if mathews is as good as everyone says he shouldnt need Nylander to put up points. They have other plays like Kap, Johnsson and sheary to play those minutes. They also have cap problems and adding Dman for Nylander will help with that.

You look at points totals, but Nylander has by far the most primary assists on Matthews' goals, the possession stats are the best when he's playing with Nylander. The Matthews line has been their best line this season and Nylander contributes to that

Nylander has 41 assists on Matthews' goals in the NHL including 27 primary assists, which doesn't look that spectacular but they barely played together last year. Hyman (16 primary) and Rielly (15 primary) are 2nd and 3rd when it comes to primary assists on Matthews goals. Nylander has 9 or less primary assists on any other teammate. Matthews has 21 primary assists on Nylander, and he got 6 or less primary assists on any other player lol. So you could say they have some chemistry right? Also they have a Corsi above 57% and scoring chances for % above 56%. Again, those two should be playing together. The line is the best one of the Leafs so far and trading away Nylander will likely also hurt Matthews' production unless they bring in someone spectacular on his line which would require another big trade

Or they played together more then any other player. You can not afford him next year. They need help on defense more then they need Nylander. The production lost from Nylander to Kapanen wouldnt be as much as the gain from adding top 4 RHD. Also sheary as shown the ability to play with elite centers and is better Defensively. Mathews struggles in his own zone and Nylander does not help at all. So, they might lose out on a couple points not having Nylander but it think they would be alot better defensively and it will improve the team. They will also save 1.5 million in cap space next year.

Yes it's also because they played more together. But if you compare the numbers of assists with the other linemates (Hyman, Johnsson, Kapanen) it's not just because of that. But again, the top line is not the Leafs problem. If Risto boosts the defense it says enough about the core. At best, he's decent in his own zone. Risto is not the answer to their problem. If you want to trade Nylander, better add some more to acquire someone who can play defense.

Also, with the way they're all playing, that Marner contract is more of a problem than Nylander

The leafs have 1 dman signed next year. and 11 players with only 15 million in cap space. How are they going to make that work. Dermott will cost at least couple million and Mikheyev has played well and will also look for a raise. Even if you sign Dermott and Mikheyev for 2.5 million each then other 7 players for 1 million that will only give leafs 2-4 million and will have the 2-4 million in cap space. They will have the defense in the league by far. Especially if Reilly doesn't return to last year form.

Honey, try to do the sim, i did 100 of them.....3 Lines are fit, 4th Line will be Marlies ( Korshkov, Engvall. Bracco ), Mikheyev is gone cause noone in TML office can field players tacticaly on long term ( or Hyman will hit the doors ), 3rd Pair will be Sandin - Liljegren which leaves 12,5M for three Ds to sign or 13,1M if we run 21 players.....

Rielly in form ? He was never in form, hes Winger playing D and just now ( as Palhal said ) it shows how not crappy was Hainsey sheltering him despite all the sh.t we poured on the old guy....

I see you think Nylander is really crap....is that why you want him so badly ? Or you are just trying to be a saint and help TML with Ristolainen and Sheary ?
