Created by: CD282
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 19, 2019
Published: Nov. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The lineup:

1st line: don't mess with success.
2nd line: Yamamoto is a toolsy energetic 2-way forward, Kreider is a left-shot version of Kassian with better 2-way play.
3rd line: hard minutes / PK / shutdown unit that is also a threat to score.
4th line: easy minutes line with declining veteran center who can mentor the kids.

1st pair: assuming Larsson's back is ok, this pair has a history of success together.
2nd pair: playing really well this year despite being the #1 pair, I'm thinking that reducing their level of competition to 2nd pair will also enhance their results.
3rd pair: easy minutes pair with serious offensive bonafides.

1G: Koskinen is proving capable of being a starter in this league.
2G: I'm hoping Starrett can handle 30 starts next year, if not there's plenty of cap space to bring in another goalie.

Trade for Frolik. Khaira-Pageau-Frolik would be a great shutdown line

I only have 22 players and Frolik is a UFA... what do you think it would cost to sign him to a 1 year deal?

There's no point in having Benson on the team if he's playing fourth line minutes

It's an easy minutes line that's designed to ease the two rookies into the NHL. Mainly offensive zone starts, not facing opponents top-6, etc. The goal for these two is 2nd line, I think this is the best way to get them involved without undue exposure.

Not sure why Florida would hand an ELC Tippett over for JP, rest are interesting.

I don't think JP will cost much more than Tippett on a 2-year deal, TBH. With JP it was never about the money.

Neal is limping around on a suspected broken toe, but his hands are still lethal in tight. His power-play goal, Neal’s ninth on the season, was vintage James Neal, roofed from the top of the crease. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/oilers-growing-confidence-full-display-revenge-win-vs-sharks/

On pace to score 46 goals this year, even with a broken toe!
