Well AA is a RFA so he don't really have other options but re-sign or be traded...

laugh Kopitar isn't waiving for Buffalo, And how do you know that Athanasiou isn't resigning with Detroit? He's still an RFA and has no choice. He can try and price himself out of Detroit and possibly force a trade that's about it.

We want picks for AA. You aren't going to get him with a huge package deal of a bunch of draft misfits and some low round picks. The asking price is a 1st and a mid-tier prospect, depending on how far you guys will go in the playoffs. So from Buffalo probably just the first. We want to draft our own players, not take your busts, thank you

Yes he is an RFA but has arbitration rights and it will be the same situation as Trouba but will get less of a return. He is being put on 2nd line with no linemates. Why would he want to be part of a long rebuilding team.

...imagine saying this while doing an AGM where he presumably signs long-term with Sabres who has been rebuilding for the last decade or so...

Arbitration rights or not he has zero leverage. He can sit or he can sign with us. If we do trade him it will be cor what Yzerman wants or he goes nowhere. Yzerman has shown he can be patient and waits out the player. AA may want to leave but it is in Yzerman's hands and I know he does not take that package.

Like I said it will be like Trouba. He will sign one year deal then will be a UFA in 2021 and his value will be next to nothing.

And what makes you think he does not want to play for the Wings? Yes they are rebuilding, I have have not heard on thing that he wants out.
The Trouba incident, you reference, had more to do with his family issues and his girlfriend wanting to be in a city that had a top notch medical history and hospital system.
