(Sheldon Keefe's) record with the Marlies in terms of development & on-ice success during his time (here) has compelled us all to feel he is the right person to take us to the next stage in our evolution." Elliotte Friedman states: "We have not seen the last of Babcock [in the NHL]. The veteran players really liked playing for him. I think he will get a chance somewhere else, he's too good." Greg Brady (@gregbradyTO) on Twitter reports: "Have also had 2 people suggest Babcock has been sensing all this & back-channeling calls, ready for something new. He wants to coach again quickly. He wants to coach a team this season."

Leafs fire Babcock. Will they turn things around? If they don't turn it around, will Dubas be next out the door?

I don't think he will be next, but he very well could be. A lot of pressure is on the players themselves now, because tons of people were calling for Babcock's head, and now the alleged issue is gone, so the players and team will be expected to do much better, and if they don't, some people will be on the hot seat. The assistant coaches will be facing more pressure now as well, such as Dave Hakstol and more, because they were brought in to help out the Power Play and Penalty Kill, both of which have been bad for the Leafs, so they could be facing more heat if things don't improve. Dubas would be the last person Shanahan fires.

I agree that Dubas will survive this season no matter what, but he built this team. He decided to trade away all of their physicality and toughness. He decided to trade Kadri, one of his best all-around players and best value players, for a totally redundant PP specialist. Terrible team management by Dubas, in my opinion. He never should've signed Tavares. Imagine the roster depth they could have for $11M AAV.

Agreed. Top-heavy teams can work sometimes, but this team is just too top-heavy. Shore, Spezza, Mikheyev, Johnsson and Kapanen are nice pieces to have, but they don't great depth like the Lightning or Vegas, simply because of the structure the team is built on. Barrie has been trash recently, Ceci isn't great, Muzzin hasn't been too hot, and Reilly needs to pick it up. Dermott and Holl are the only bright spots there. Andersen is still Andersen and the backup situation is still a huge question mark. Kadri is doing great on Colorado right now, Kerfoot has been alright. The Shanaplan may be falling apart before our very eyes.

There's def. plenty of blame to go around. But, I hate the way this roster was constructed. The D is a travesty.

The fact that the management actually thought they could win the Cup with this D core is simply shocking to me. Babcock has taken so much heat over the last year, and maybe deservedly, but wow.
