Even if he doesn't resign, that is way too much to give up for a MAYBE.

I doubt the Wings make a trade for Shattenkirk unless he agrees to an extension in advance.

The problem with Shattenkirk will be that he wants his extension to be long term. Detroit has too many long term contracts to commit to another. They wouldn't be able to keep other players at the rate they are going. Also, I have heard that Larkin is on the Blues radar for this trade. That's way too much, but even Sheahan & Tatar as a package seems high as well.

i mean, realistically whats being given up is a top six winger. a 3rd/4th line center and a defensive prospect. thats not giving up too much ridiculous for a true number one defenseman. look at what edmonton gave up for a top 4 defenseman. (granted that was a terrible trade) but the price for puck moving true number one defenseman is high. and will remain that way. obviously the wings aren't going to give up larkin. and this trade doesn't sell us out on prospects and it helps our current cap.
