While the trade value may be fair, I feel like having a young star in Brady Tkachuk would be more valuable to the Sens than what they get.

I’m talking about the off-ice and intangible impact of having someone like Tkachuk on their roster.

Koncency is 22 signed at 5.5 for next 6 years. Doubt Philly would move him and a first in a deal. Interesting tho.

Gaudreau is a really interesting option for them. He's a massive upgrade over Konecny in production, has gamebreaker-ability, and is on an incredible contract for another 2 years. His best pal, Kevin Hayes, just signed long-term in PHI. Adding Gaudreau could make Giroux or Voracek a tradeable asset, and both would fetch a decent package.

PHI is in good shape on defense for the foreseeable future. Carter Hart should be "the guy" for the foreseeable future in net. So really, upgrades at forward are all management is looking to do. Getting Gaudreau, a hometown guy who is pushing on 100-point seasons and in his prime, would be a major upgrade, plus is very marketable to fans (and ticket and jersey sales).

No doubt. I think the hardest decision for all three of these teams is OTT needing to decide whether Brady Tkachuk will be their future captain, and whether or not it's worth getting a proven 22-year old forward on a great long-term contract + a solid top 4 dman who is a veteran for this team on a good contract + a 1st round pick to add to their massive stable of picks in the next two years.

Tkachuk has "elite" potential written all over him, there's no arguing that. But if Konecny has first line potential (I'd argue that he certainly does), then getting another 1st rounder and Brodie is a really great package for an elite player. OTT would have four 1st rounders and six 2nd rounders in the next two years after this trade...there is a lot that can be done with those picks by way of selecting/developing, or trading them for a specific player with a specific skillset on a specific contract.

Having tons of picks and tons of cap space is a great position to be in. But it's a tough decision and I don't know how OTT management and fans would react to shipping Brady out this soon.

I'll also add that I firmly believe Konecny will be wearing a letter sooner than later for his club, whether that's in PHI or elsewhere. Have to think OTT would look at Konecny as the perfect "young veteran with leadership potential" for their locker room, assuming he could be obtained for a reasonable price.

My mind has wondered if we could somehow trade Gaudreau for Brady but doubted that Ottawa would see the need for him during this stage of their rebuild process. This workaround using Philly seems like a really great idea and essentially equates to Gaudreau for Tkachuk and Brodie for a second which seems like good value.

Bingo. OTT doesn't have a need for Gaudreau with their current roster. But he's a 100% perfect fit for PHI. And Brady is a 100% perfect fit for CGY.

So the question becomes: would OTT accept these terms to trade an elite young player this early in his career? For starters, at least Brady would be going to the Western Conference, which is the only way they'd ever move him out of OTT. OTT fans are sensitive these days...and it's pretty likely that Dorion and Co. would never do this type of deal because it would require trading a player they drafted before he has a chance to really help their team win.

Konecny is only 22 years old, on a great long-term deal that would help OTT reinforce a great internal cap structure for their best forwards in coming years, brings a veteran presence, and likely has plenty of upside yet. I could see him as a 70-point player within 2-3 years. PHI fans and management likely agree that Konecny is really, really good, and has a pretty high ceiling yet.
