Offers for Markstrom

Created by: WhereArtTLuongo
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 20, 2019
Published: Nov. 20, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Markstrom was on the table what would you give up for him? I believe the Canucks would be looking for something around what Bishop got 2 years ago, so a second a B+ level prospect, and a cap dump back-up goalie. I also have some potential ideas in the bottom. Offer away!

If you can’t be bothered to fix your lines, it’s pretty hard to take your trade seriously.

Also, Vancouver is not in any position to retain salary on a trade, nor would they entertain taking a cap dump in return. In fact, they would most likely be looking to unload a salary and would need to use Marky as a sweetener to make anything functional work.

Not sure how a Bishop comparable translated into a 2nd and a B+ prospect when Bishop was traded for a downgraded pick (Tampa's 5th for LA's 7th) and a risky prospect that wasn't working out in LA. Cernak revitalized his career in Tampa, but he most certainly wasn't considered a B+ prospect within the Kings organization.

The main haul of the trade for Tampa was Budaj, who just had a fantastic season in LA when Quick went down with an injury. He was intended to be a cheap veteran backup option to play behind Vasilevskiy since Bishop was going to be moving on anyway.

Both of these trades are significant overpayments for rental Markstrom, who is at best an average starting goaltender in the NHL.
