Pageau is totally the guy I am going after if I was GM of the Oilers, but they dont have the cap space, something would have to go back. And he is a UFA so good luck getting a first for him from anyone

If the market is right, these returns look fair. Some of these guys would have to maintain their pace though.

Gagner would have to come back the other way and he'd immediately go to Belleville. If Pageau is still red-hot come the TDL, a first is definitely coming back the other way. I would do Gagner and 1st for Pageau. Or a 2nd and a B+ prospect.

JP + a 3rd is more like it. Everyone knows that Pageau is on a heater right now, this isn't the "new normal" for him. He's a 30-ish point undersized defensive center who belongs in the bottom 6 on any credible playoff team.

As does Sam Gagner, but it's worth noting that Gagner is currently the Oilers' 2C (while Nugent-Hopkins is injured) and playing well in that role. His wingers are Alex Chiasson and James Neal, hardly barn burners. Gagner's stats so far this year (various roles, 5v5 only):

56.62 CF%
58.64 FF%
58.33 SF%
50.00 GF% (5 - 5)
67.45 xGF%
70.00 HDSC%
7.14 Sh%
90.00 Sv%
0.971 PDO

So while Gagner is hardly a valuable piece, he's not a cap dump that would go straight to the AHL - especially in an organization such as the Senators. I don't see him going the other way anyhow, I think something surrounding JP and a pick makes more sense. According to CapFriendly Edmonton has $3.3M in deadline cap space, so fitting in the tail end of Pageau's contract shouldn't be an issue. I don't think Holland will do this without Pageau agreeing to an extension first though, similar to what McPhee did with Stone.
