Lol. I already built it from their side, and all the objections were like, "but what will the Leafs do without Liljegren and Sandin!!!!" This. This is what they'll do. Win the Stanley Cup.

Hahaha. Comments that don't say which side something is bad for are so arrogant. Yes. You're so much smarter than me that you don't even owe it to me to tell me what you think of my post. How original. Go out and play, kid.

Ok boomer chill. Giving up engvall for hutton who isnt good enough to be a 7th defenseman is a terrible idea. 2 3rd liners, a 2nd and a 3rd for hall speaks for itself and the CBJ trade is such a huge overpayment that I cant even begin to describe how bad it is

It’s an interesting take but obviously leafs would never do this.

I think it’s optimistic to think either one is a top pairing d man in the future. Bat sh*t crazy would be the term I would choose.

Dubas wrecked the Leafs' PK last summer. Top four by minutes were Zaitsev, Hainsey, Hyman, and Brown. All gone or injured now.

Ceci, Jones and Hyman getting healthy are a start, but it's good to have options. Probably should have added a checking wing or two, as well, but how much work should one put into a post when one knows it will just go down in flames anyway for trading an untradeable franchise hero like Matthews?

I was reading a comment thread on here where a Leafs fan asked how much for Dubois, and a CBJ fan shot back with, "that starts with Matthews," and they both stomped off to feel smug or something. I thought maybe they could both be right. I think the Leafs were one of the top two or three teams the last few years. What changed is defense, penalty killing, and backup goalie. So I fixed those things, and created enough cap space to rent a recent MVP, while keeping the center depth relatively elite.

Fascinating. What would Toronto add to make the trade fair? It's one that the Blue Jackets already only consider if they think Matthews is more marketable for them than Jones or Dubois, and if they want to rebuild through the draft rather than watch Tortorella whip a dead horse into a wild card spot.

Edit: this team wins the Cup this year. Crazy good odds. Because I fixed its weakenesses of goaltending, penalty killing, RHD, and general defensive depth, and still added an MVP.

After the Cup, Hall, Hutton and Ceci walk and the team has 11.5M to give raises to Dubois (RFA), Korpisalo (RFA), and Muzzin (UFA). Muzzin gets a 1M raise to 6M and excessive term. Korpisalo gets a one year bridge at 3M until Andersen goes away. Dubois signs 7yx8M after taking a while to settle in and not having the best point total. Done.

If that doesn't get them all, then the Leafs can give Andersen away to CBJ in the offseason, after they've scored a top five pick to play 2C behind Matthews, and they're ready to compete again.

I don't see this happening from any side. Neither team would want to give up the pieces required to make said trade work.

If Matthews was signed for 7 or 8 years, maybe. Giving up two franchise pieces, one with term, and one on his entry isn’t gonna fly.

The only Blue Jacket playing like a franchise piece this year is Korpisalo. So rebuild.

Jones has 2 more years left on his contract. Matthews has 4. Please quit using Boston math.

What else do you think we would have to add to get Anderson in this deal?

There is a very big difference between saying, “this guy has the potential to be a top pair d man,” and, “this guy is a future top pair d man.” You’re better than that. Don’t be that guy that just flounders in semantics when their team isn’t doing well.

Interesting logic. So should the leafs be tearing it down and rebuilding too? Oh wait, you have them going all in. Odd.

Yeah, he’s the one on the elc you mentioned... now which one has term? Korpisalo who expires next year and who can go to arb or Jones and his two years?

They can keep him as long as they could keep Matthews. He isn’t making 11.634 million dollars
