Description

Blues Reasoning: Get an extra year of top end dman. And a LHD offensive dman that they don't have.
Leafs: true #1 defender who is better in his own zone that offensive zone. Hope would be to sign him and Muzzin to get a true shutdown pair. to shelter what will be a young D-core after the top pair.
Ceci is cap dump no need for anything in return.

Yes lets just give up 2.5 years of a cost controlled offensive star who is a massive leader in the locker room for half a year of a guy who is already more expensive, older and is going to cost twice as much.

Rielly is a true #1 defender who received more Norris votes than Pietrangelo did last year. This is complete and total nonsense. Rielly is 25 and under contract for 3 more years and Pietrangelo is FA and going to want a long term deal at the age of 30 that will cost upwards of 10 million a season. There are not enough nopes.

These trades don't make the Leafs any better for this season. In effect Pietrangelo and Sandin replace Reilly and Ceci. For some reason, folks think Sandin is ready to to take big NHL minutes and that Ceci is just a cap dump. Both false assumptions. Plus Leafs lost 2 year of Reilly.
I doubt if Pietrangelo would waive to come to the Leafs anyway this season. Then we get into the very realistic situation where the defending Cup champs ask/tell their NTC captain they want to trade him.
