I don't think Carey Prices' contract is movable unless you're taking money back!

Also, not sure he's that valuable..

Youre dreaming with that return. Also, Detroit isn't doing that and neither is Winnipeg and NJ.

These trades are wow.

1st off Price isn't worth that much. The thing currently holding Montreal back is Carey Price. If he wants to win a cup, he has to return to his true form.

We can't get a 2nd + 3rd round pick with the way Byron is currently playing. If we sold him last year at this time, I believe we could, but nobody is going to pay a premium with the way he's started the season.

Weber isn't available nor would Detroit give up that much future for an aging player when they are rebuilding.

Chiarot isn't available nor would it make sense to trade our top pairing defensemen (him and Mete rotate that spot)

Please explain to me why after trading away our entire "win-now" core, we would trade Drouin for an aging lazy veteran.

Dont forget to mention the whole, he just went through surgery which is going to kill his trade value.

That too. Maybe we could sucker a team like Edmonton who desperately needs winger depth. Byron fits perfectly with McDavid simply because of his speed.

considering Grubauer is younger, wont cost nearly that much when he gets an extension and has better stats than Price the past 2.5 seasons......this is just a crazy homer trade

The most games he's played in a season is 37, but he's a good goalie.

statistically has has been better, thats isnt my opinion, thats just easy to look at data. IF you want to argue track record and prestige of the players sure but the difference bw the 2 isnt multiple 1st round picks and Avs top 2 prospects (1 being one of the top prospects in all the NHL)

when you consider Prices age and over bloated contract, that track record prestige difference in value gets neglected really quickly

Completely agree, but the workload between 37 games and 60 games is massive for a goalie. Why do you think most teams would love to run a 50-30 split

thats why price wont age well. You wont be seeing those consistent vezina level seasons again. With last season, having varlamov, and the awkward transitioning away from him....thats why there was this almost 50/50 split bw the 2.

I never liked massive long term contracts on goalies..

1) It's really easy for them to completely lose their game.
2) it nearly impossible to trade afterwards
and 3) it creates a back log in the system which subsequently effects the development of younger prospects goalies.

So many examples of it around the league.

It never works, teams always regret it. Panthers are going to be in a weird spot in 2-3 years since they gave Bob that contract and have Knight coming up. Eventually you have a terrible contract that you eithe rhave to eat to play your young kids or you risk blocking talent.

Price inst being traded, but if he did, its not going to be for any significant franchise building block type pieces. Montreal would have to eat a bad contract back as well.

Would just be better buying out Price at 36/37 if we really wanted him to move on from him. We are going to have to give up several quality pieces for a team to take on that contract.

or if primeau is ready...or close to it and you just want to close that chapter on Price and move on. Seattle expansion draft could be an option if he would be willing to waive his NMC.
you might not like it but you could make a cleanish break from that contract. Look at what Vegas was able to do with Fluery. Seattle could be tempted in the same way

Fleury was still on top of his game at the time of the expansion draft, Pittsburgh also paid a hefty price in order for Vegas to take him.

Price has already shown signs of regression and is paid a lot for a long time. I doubt Seattle has any interest in him, however I would not be opposed.

they paid a 2nd round pick for them to take Fluery if I do recall. Just spit balling the idea bc Price is from BC that there could be a temptation there.. My guess is Price does nto see the end of that contract in a Habs sweater one way or anotehr

Yep. I don't see Price playing until he's 40, but the contract isn't front loaded, so he might stick around just to claim that money. I'd say he ends up getting bought out in 5ish years.

Players? Some are definitely in it for the money.

Owners? 95% of it are in it for the money, winning the Cup just means increased revenue for a few years after.

This is the kind of proposition that makes us habs fan look terrible... I mean Im a big Price fan, I think he is still pretty good and can be for at least 4 more years, but to think that hes worth that much is just crazy! Why would Colorado do that, jeopardize 10years of futur giving up 2 1stpick, 1 great prospect and one absolute stud for a aging elite goalie not thaaaat much better than Grubauer? I know we, habs, fans, tend to overevaluate our players but this one is something!

I'd rather wait for Primeau to be 100% ready. Let him play a few seasons as the backup giving him more and more games every season. Then you trade Price.
