Draft Lottery

Created by: AnalyticsGeek
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 22, 2019
Published: Nov. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A lot of people counted the Penguins out this season, but I didn't. However, with more injuries piling up, it actually looks like the team will struggle to make the playoffs. I admit, I was wrong about them. At least they get a chance to win the draft lottery if they really struggle.

What'd you guys think of this team?

if the pens decided to rebuild they have some great pieces that will spend up the rebuild. even more so if they convince malkin and sid to waive their nmc's.

They are not rebuilding, they are just having a quick retool from all the injuries and missing the playoffs.

They have points in 9 out of the last 11 without some really big names. This team is more than capable of reaching the playoffs. Am I missing something?

You think the pens will get the 1st overall pick?

If Malkin, Guentzel McCann and DuMoulin all get injured, then this team is DONE for the season. They are going to lose just like they did in 1983-84.

But we are looking at the worst-case scenario. Chances are, Crosby, Letang and Schultz will all come back eventually and help the team, but what if there are more injuries?

That’s extremely unlikely to happen

The thing is, what’s the actual point to make the playoffs and all your key guys get injured and you get sweeped in the first round? Seems more worth it to tank if that’s the case.

Leafs would ask for guentzel in any marner trade.

Well, I disagree. Guentzel has much higher value than Marner.

the penguins.
4 roster players a 2nd pairing defense man, 2 1st round picks, and a top 6 forward for Marner. Hell no. He's never even cracked 30 goals. 100 assists warrior. No thanks.

Yeah, I agree it's a gross overpay by the Pens. However, you've gotta be able to acknowledge that Marner is a great player, one of the best at generating scoring chances. Who do you think is better ability-wise, Marner or Guentzel?

I like Sam (Hell of a last name) but this doesn’t work for Toronto. Matthews Tavares marner Nylander and Rielly are the team core and I don’t foresee them being moved. The value seems a touch low in nhl player talent and Toronto has no need for futures right now.

I think Rust and Pettersson would fit in really well with the Leafs, both reliable players. The Leafs have been looking great without Marner, so he may not be a part of Keefe's plans.

Yes but the Mikheyev-Tavares-Hyman line was really good at generating possession last game.

The Hyman Tavares marner line will generate goals. Mikheyev kerfoot kapanen amen line will also work quite well.

I know Rust is off to fast start, but he has shown previously he is forty point guy. Leafs need more of an impact player if they were ever to trade for Marner. Petersson is OK and might turn out good, but the Leafs have promising Dmen also and younger than him. Poulin in on fire this year in the "Q". Gee, he could be the best, maybe second best player in the deal.
