John Marino as the top pairing RHD? Weak.

hes quite the stud

He’s had 20 decent games in Pittsburgh. Second pairing minutes. I’m not comfortable with him on the top pairing. Your entire defence looks pretty bad - I’d bring in Jones for sure, maybe Bouchard too.

hes been playing top minutes with dumoulin last like 6 games and has looked fantastic. Im not saying hes an offensive dynamo but hes great with the puck and knows how to play defense although he is on a 4 game point streak now

bouchard will be better no doubt im just saying marino is a steady top 4 guy who can play top minutes and still be steady

Marino wouldn't sign with the Oilers, that wasn't an unforced error.

Also, look up the picks traded at the 2015 draft: Edmonton could have had Barzal and Aho on their roster, they threw away those picks for nothing. Greatest unforced error of the entire franchise history.

Excellent bet by Rutherford, although IMO Marino's value today is a 5th rounder. He will eat EG's lunch in next 2 yrs.

Its about opportunity. If Marino was signed today, and is what he appears to be ((a 7 NHL D) Pens have exactly 1 RD blocking his way as a call-up (30 yr old Zach Trotman). If both signed, I don't think unsigned Will Reilly would block him. Marino has all the tools and has been hard-matched for 2 yrs. Similar skills as a 23 yr old Jeff Petry, without any kind of favourable offensive deployment (you'll see soon enough).

With Edm, he's got Persson, Jones (LHD who plays Right side), Bouchard & Bear (and possibly Day) blocking him. with Kemp and Bergland unsigned. And this doesn't account for Larsson and Benning who are arguably the top 2 RHD.

Stupid Oilers, eh?
