Guentzel is 25 years old (older ) and has a career high of 76 points playing with Crosby. Penguin fans glorify him but he’s realistically a Kunitz 2.0. Hes still a great player but he’s not Marner good.

Guentzel: 43 points in 41 games.

Marner: 17 points in 20 games.

Seems pretty even. Guentzel has an edge in productivity and cap hit, but Marner's a bunch younger and more likely to keep improving. How much? Enough to justify the cap hit? Not this year. Long term, absolutely. Was the Kessell trade the start of a low key rebuild where Pittsburgh focuses on staying competitive long term? Are the Leafs suddenly all in? Seems like a big doublenope.
