Leave us out. He wouldn’t sign with us before and don’t need anymore 3rd liners.

Well Buffalo declines hard, so this falls apart pretty quickly

As usual, you don't know what you're talking about. I took the underlying trade from 3 different Buffalo posts.

He’s right though. Overpayment by Buffalo by quite a bit.

Still waiting for explanation of your assertion that Vesey refused to sign with Boston. He's from Boston, spent 4 years at Harvard, for goodness' sake, was drafted by Nashville and signed by the NY Rangers, and I never heard that he even had an opportunity to sign with Boston.

So I should accept your opinion plus that of a guy who I know from dozens of other posts to be, shall we say, ill-informed over that of several Buffalo fans? I took this trade straight from another post and it got not a peep from anyone, including you, that it was an overpayment by the Sabres. Other posts and comments have suggested a similar trade, and most of them include two roster players, not one.

Vesey was free agent when he came out of college after not signing with Nashville. Nashville traded his rights to oddly enough Buffalo. He would not sign there either. Boston tried to sign him when Buffalos exclusive rights expired but he spurned their offer and signed with the Rangers who eventually traded him back to Buffalo.

Ya take my opinion, because it’s correct. ??‍♂️

Sometimes the least valuable opinions are that of fans of the team involved. Fan is short for fanatic. Fanatic is Irrational. Who knows, maybe the just hate Vesey and want him gone at any cost. But the reality is McCabe for Toffoli straight is pretty fair value. The 2nd for Toffoli straight up is pretty close to fair value. Probably should add a mid level prospect or pick. But the 3 is an overpayment. But if that’s what Buffalo wants to do so be it. I know i am willing to overpay if it gets me what i want and helps short term, long term, and cap wise. Vesey is useless to them and has little trade value as a UFA to be that has pretty much sucked this year. They have a surplus of D men. So the trade probably does make sense to them. Does not change the fact that it is more than what Toffoli is worth.

Thank you for Vesey's history. I should have been more suspicious of the gap between being drafted by Nashville and then signed by the Rangers.

Having seen every game Tyler Toffoli has ever played in the NHL, I disagree with your evaluation that he is worth only a second, or an A defense prospect. And your argument about fans' opinions being exaggerated cuts the wrong way in this instance because almost all of them "overpay" for Toffoli, not underpay. Inasmuch as he will either be re-signed by the Kings before the end of the season or else traded at the deadline, we may get to see how the actual market values him.

Most likely he is traded. He has slipped quite a bit since his 31 goal year and GMs are not overpaying at the deadline like they used to anymore.

Stone went for 2nd and high end prospect.

MoJo went for 2nd + 4th

Simmonds went for Hartman and 4th

Granlund went for Fiala

Only saving grace for LA was last years market was flooded with talent. This year won’t be. Supply and demand might push price. His value is 2nd and mid level prospect. If you get more than that...good on you. But they overpaid if you do.

BTW. I have seen Leafs fans offering Ceci for garbage just to get rid of him. Bruins fans doing the same with Krug, Krejci, Heinen simply because they don’t like them.

Irrational is irrational. And it works both sides of the spectrum.

I think your "second and a high end prospect" is a little disingenuous. The "high-end prospect" was the 15th overall pick and was already expected to be a top-4 defenseman the following year, which is exactly the promise he has fulfilled. Of course, Tyler can't lace Stone's skates, but I'm not saying that he's on a par with Stone, either.

That being said, I've given your arguments as much time as I think you put in to advancing them, and you have persuaded me. I think the correct value is the second and McCabe.

Toffoli gets a late 2nd from a playoff team, probably either a mid pick or prospect if there's a market. I guess the problem here is McCabes value. Shibbal thinks highly of him, if you value him as a 2nd round pick, then adding a 2nd is overpaying. I personally want no part of him. He's a rental going to a very bad team, his offense is trending the wrong way, which is exactly the opposite of what we need. We are short on scoring, speed, and toughness on our bottom 9, why risk anything on this rental?
