Hawks Fans - Thoughts On Strome

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 24, 2019
Published: Nov. 24, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've seen suggested on here before (can't remember from who) that the Hawks should cash in on Strome's unexpected production now and deal him for a more established talent, in case he experienced regression going forward.

After putting up 17 points in the first 23 games of the season, Strome's success from last year looks more sustainable and the line of him, DeBrincat and Kane has been on fire offensively.

Strome will be an RFA for the first time this offseason and I'd argue he's in line for a contract similar to the one DeBrincat got earlier this season, if his camp is more amenable to a bridge deal. With *another* impending cap crunch, I want to open the question to the Hawks fans (and really anyone else) of this site.

Should the Hawks look to trade Dylan Strome? If so, when?

I dont think we should trade him. We've traded away all of Kane's guys in Panarin, Schmaltz, Hartman, and Strome would just piss him off even more after hes had a chance to develop some chemistry. It would also tear down Debrincat as well, and in that aspect Strome is going to have more value to our team than basically anybody else. Its also not going to be a terribly complicated cap crunch. Its not going to be hard to replace guys like Maatta or Smith or even Shaw if we have to trade him, these guys dont have negative trade value and we could atleast snag a 7th if we basically just needed to unload the contract without getting anything in return.

I am pretty hesitant on Strome. he was amazing last year, but this year he looks as slow as everyone knew he was, and only really gets the points b/c of kane. (the cat has not impressed me either so far this year). if we re-sign him it better be close to a 2-3 year and no more than 4.5mil. he does not deserve to even sniff what the cat got.

as for a trade, i wouldn't be that broken up. i guess im neutral on him. open to a trade, but ok if we re-sign him to a reasonable cap.

I think it would entirely depend on what we could get back from the market. I don't know whether it would be so much as "cashing in" but more of if we can upgrade. I would probably errrr on the side of keep and develop, after all he is only young still and with some great chemistry building between Cat and Kaner, they could really flourish.
