calgary would never do this. tkachuk at 7 million is worth way more than marner at 11 million.

Toronto still adds at least a 1st, Tkachuk is on a way cheaper contract (which is relevant now) and plays a very important and unique roll. Marner becomes almost redundant with Lindholm here (and before you have a fit, im not saying Lindholm is better just they virtually do the same things but Lindholm is cheaper).

Not with the term. On a bridge deal tkachuk at 7 is an overpayment and once the 3 years are up he will be up for a big raise. Over the course of marners contract the cap will be going up so his cap percentage will be going down. If tkachuks was a 5 year contract I would agree with you but if he keeps playing like he has he could be asking for 11+ by the time his contract is up

And in 3 years marner will be cheaper. It’s a trade off. I think Calgary would want an rhd prospect. One of Lindgren Hollowell or Duszak.

Fair trade. I don't think the GMs will be bold enough to do this kind of trade, but I like it.

I get where the argument that Marner would be redundant comes from, but I still don't buy it. Marner is an elite talent that would help the Flames right now. And Calgary is already a team of goons, up to their goaltender (no offense), so it's not like they desperately need the grit that Tkachuk brings to the game.

Meanwhile, Tkachuk and Matthews would mesh together well on the same team.

As for the difference in contract $, you can count on Dubas to give a mammoth contract to Tkachuk in 3 years.

Neither team does this. Why exactly do we need to try again? I’d imagine if the Leafs want Hamonic something could be worked out when the Calgary blueline gets a bit more healthy.

Okay so this Lindholm/Marner thing aside, Calgary is really just a one line team. If teams shutdown the top line, the other lines just aren't good enough to score some goals especially in the playoffs.

Calgary needs a 1C/2C but more importantly they need a playmaker for the 2nd line. Until then when push comes to shove, teams will just play lockdown defense vs the one line and not have to worry too much about the other lines.

Alright so your solution is trade the only piece not on the first line that produces like the first line for another ~ more expensive ~ player to do the exact same thing just on the other side of the face off dot?
That's literally the definition of a lateral move. If Flames are going to upgrade it It won't be by trading away Tkachuk. I would not be surprised if he is named Captain by the end of this year

I didn't offer a solution. Just broke down why Calgary struggled in the playoffs last time around and probably why they are struggling right now.

If I were Monahan, I'd be pissed about the lack of quality centres and overall playmakers on this team.

Did you watch the interview on HNIC?
He admitted that Calgary would have been good situation for him after he realized that nixing a trade wasn't going to allow him to stay with the Leafs. Lol

I honestly believe he wanted to stay a Leaf and nixing a trade was kind his last attempt to stay. Remember, he's from London, Ontario and playing for the Leafs was playing for his hometown.

Look...get suspended once, I get ya lost your cool but anything after that is inexcusable.
Getting suspended twice when your team needed you most generally means a ticket out of town.

As a Leafs fan there’s just no way Flames trade Tkachuk for Marner. Only way I think they’d even consider is Leafs taking on Lucic contract with Tkachuk. Also only make sense if they also shipping out Gaudreau since he and Marner are similar in style.
