As long as you're aware that there is a laundry list of things that would have to change to move Pietrangelo out of STL, I think you're on the right track with his value. I'd want something like Petro ($ retained) and Sanford for Johnsson, Liljegren, 2021 1st, 2020 pick conditional on Leafs' playoff results. (Bracco isn't a good fit for STL imo.) I don't consider it a rental price because I think the only way TOR would go after Petro is if they were going to extend him.

wtf is that pens leafs trade, what part of the pens current makeup makes you think they would be interested in him and that contract at all let alone give a 3rd for him lmao

I think it is a good start man. You are on the right track here. Think about it this way.... There is probably a team out there that would put the always sought after package of a 1st round pick + Roster player + A Higher Level Prospect together for a guy like Petro.

I do think that the the Blues, by their own actions are moving on from him though. They will either keep him for another run at the cup and let him walk or trade him to the highest bidder IMO.

Are the Leafs in a position to make an offer like that?

Ask yourself this question... Would you be comfortable with Tor 1st + Johnsson + Liljegren for Pietrangelo? Because someone else will offer a similar package for him if the Blues make it known that they are trading him.

Steep price. Great player! Thanks for posting.

I highly doubt Dubas is going to spend the necessary pieces to obtain Pietrangelo.

1) It will cost a lot, pics, a roster player and a prospect
2) He's 30 and going to be FA, his rental price would be too much
3) Hi next contract is going to be way too much for his age and what he'll accomplish over that contract.

I just don't see any reality into this rumour which by the way is entirely specualation.

Tha value isn’t bad but I just don’t see the fit. Leafs could re sign Barrie, pay less and still get an offensive Dman without putting anything up. Moving liljegren at this point would be absurd. He is a perfect 2 way fit for the leafs and will be able to provide better defence than petro in years to come.

To get Pietrangelo I would think the Leafs would have to offer Nylander + Sandin.

does it really matter, pick a team.
Letang is a band-aid and their 2nd best defencemen is Justin Shultz. Seems like they could use a top 4 D

True, from a asset/cost perspective signing Barrie and keeping Liljegren makes more sense. But I'll disagree with you that you're getting anything of Pietrangelo's quality by doing that, even accounting for his age/expected decline.

Totally agree, wanted to see how it would look based on Freidman's rumour.
Would be very hard to fit Pietro at 8+mil the following season and age is definitely concern.
But if your swinging for the fences in the next 2-3 years, it could make sense.

I agree that petro is obviously better than Barrie. But...
Barrie + lilgren > Petro and more cost effective.

Also Barrie+ lilgren + Johnsson well that’s a clear cut Decision.

Ceci is a top 4D? In that case i think the leafs could use him more than the pens looking at that abomination of a defense the leafs have. Schultz is not the second best defensmen we have after tanger, that would be dumolin, petterson, and marino. Pens are totally okay without taking on an anchor in ceci. Pass. Dont think any team regardless of where they are in standings is giving you a 3rd for him so may wanna take another look there bud.

Blues aren’t going to accept this from the pure fact we still have another cup run.
