Because “rental cost” is over exaggerated if you are going to compare Karlsson when it comes to contracts then you probably should compare what he got in a trade to him then.

Karlsson got a 1st, Tierney (3C), and some B prospects for being the best Dman in the league for 5+ years.
Piet is good, but not that good.
