I can't see the jets trading him unless they get something major in return....He didnt have a great training camp because of injuries and when the Jets needed a LD early on with Beaulieu getting injured, he was again injured....The only time Maurice will call him up is if three D gets injured....or next year with a good camp...Basically the only time that you get to impress PoMo is training camp...pathetic but...

What do you consider “major”? In terms of leafs assets. Can’t see it being a roster player.

Part of a bigger trade....I count TO out because of that.

Basically a TDL trade with Niku being part of the trade

If he's available, I imagine Montreal would be all over him.

Finnish
Ability to score
Young and controllable

Would be able to give you a depth defensemen and a 5th round pick. grin

I was thinking of 3 way trade with Jets and Lightning

To Jets
Cirelli

To Leafs
Niku

To Lightning
1st rounder from Jets
3rd rounder from Leafs
Rights to Greenway from Leafs

Any input anyone can offer ?

I think if it were to take place it would have to be closer to the deadline or in the offseason. Tampa highly values Cirelli and rightfully so, I think they would have to have another deal lined up for a D in order to make this trade. From Winnipeg, it would depend on where they are in the standings as to whether or not they would move that pick (not saying they're going to fall off but I think they would want a better understanding of where their pick would land).

I like Nicku, I put him in a trade once and got lit up as I thought he was a depth piece but soon found out he wasn't assuming those jets fans weren't overrating him too much lol. I would be fine with giving up Greenway and a 3rd for him, but like I said I think it would have to be closer to the deadline or in the offseason for this deal to work, mainly for Tampa and Winnipeg as they're taking the most risk....but that's just my opinion.

The way I see it, Toronto has enough young Dmen coming in next season. I don’t see a good fit for Niku.

Rielly-Dermott
Sandin-Holl
Niku-liljegren

Is about all I could come up with. Meaning 25 year old Rielly has more than double the nhl experience of all 5 of our other Dmen Combined... that is a scary thought.

I get what you're saying, but I was told he was similar to Dermott. You're on the west coast you get to see him more is that accurate? If so would he not be a great add, we could still sign a veteran UFA for more veteran leadership.

To be completely honest I do not remember seeing him play at the nhl or ahl level. Last time I would have watched him would be at the u20 wjc but I don’t recall him standing out. His ahl numbers seem impressive. If he is a Dermott type player I would think leafs need to add a bit more here.

So you think Cirelli who I think can slot in as #2 C for the Jets is enough to them for Niku???

Or not enough to Tampa??

I think leafs add a better prospect to Tampa at least. If Niku is as good as the rumours I think leafs give Hollowell to jets and they add maybe Lowry to Tampa.

I agree. What do you think of....

To the jets
Core's

To the leafs
Niku

To the Lightning
2nd from Winnipeg
3rd from Toronto
Bracco
Greenway

@Trickster what do you both think of this?

Key is to give Lightning non-roster players.
While Bracco falls under that category, I feel changing the 1st from Leafs instead and changing the 3rd to a 2nd from Jets with rights to Greenway should be more valuable.

That may be more viable for Tampa and their cap situation. If Niku is as good as I've read he is, not sure why the Jets move him at all.

Because he does not have a spot on the team

Morrissey
Pionk
Heinola
Beaulieu
Dahlstrom
And maybe even Stanley ahead of him

I assume you meant Winnipeg's 1st and our 3rd to a 2nd? I think a 1st and Niku is a little steep if what I've heard about him is true. That's why I changed it to a 2nd and I felt we needed to add a little more. What about changing out Bracco for SDA? Or do you think they might have interest in Rasanen and a pick?... Maybe a 3rd

No, I think @jamiepo might have a point that more needed to leave from Leafs so 1st from Leafs, 2nd from Jets and rights to Greenway to Tampa .

So 1st, 2nd, and prospect to Tampa
2nd line C that goes to Jets.
Cheap young D to Leafs

Not interested in parting with Rasanen, I have high hopes for him and would only move him for more of substantial piece instead of somewhat unproven NHLer but I do believe in Niku.

I'm not interested in giving up a first for a player like Niku at this point, I would rather have a more established D if another 1st is going to be traded. At first it seemed a little light from us but this seems a little to steep but close enough that we should be able to close the gap and balance out the trade a little more. Maybe a 2nd from us instead of the 1st and add Hollowell like @Jamiepo said earlier?
