Not enough secondary scoring for a playoff series.

Last year there was no secondary scoring outside of maybe Chiasson and the rest would get scored on heavily. Now this year the bottom 6 are full of defensively responsible players who don't get scored on as often. To put it simply, McDavid and Draisaitl are going to make sure the Oilers are the better team for maybe say 45 to 50% of the game. All the rest of the team has to do is survive and not get their ass kicked.

Tippett is a genius at getting the most out of his roster. We have multiple players with Riederitis, but who are still crushing it by killing penalties and wearing out the opposition with sound defensive play. When will Josh Archibald score? Who cares? Patrick Russell? Probably never, but I could care less.

Why question it? Be happy that Edmonton playing well and winning. IMO Edmonton is playing as a team and Lucic is gone. The right people have gained control of the locker room.

McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins and Neal are playing out of their minds. By that I mean most players, even the really good ones, usually operate at about 90% of their full potential. Neal and RNH are at about 95% and the two big guys are up around 98%. Plus the defense (especially Klefbom) are playing reasonably well and the goaltending has turned out better than most people feared. I predicted that Edmonton wouldn't make the playoffs this year and it looks like your team is going to prove me wrong. Congratulations!

Patrick Russell did too (sort of). Now the floodgates of secondary scoring are going to open right up for the Oilers. I predict that Gaetan Haas and Markus Granlund will both get hat tricks.

I like the Oilers, not just because they gave us Wayne Gretzky but also because their current situation fascinates me. And I don't think they have any dirty players on their team.

Haha. I am banking on Gags getting another 8-point night. I actually think that he's playing really well right now and should get some time with McDavid on LW. Doesn't have the speed, but he's still got the hands. He's turned into a gritty, crafty player after all these years and is playing with emotion. It's a contract year for him and he's going to work for it.

December got worse, but January was absolute fire. They're rolling!

Holland likes to look at the season in 10-game segments. The season so far:

First 10 games: 7-2-1 (15 points)
Second 10 games: 5-4-1 (11)
Third 10 games: 5-4-1 (11)
Fourth 10 games: 3-6-1 (7)
Fifth 10 games: 6-2-2 (14)
Current 10 games: 2-1-0 (4)

One really bad stretch, two average segments and two really good ones.

Heck yeah. They somehow seem more resilient this year. There seems like a good vibe on the team. The way they played in the past two Calgary games and the St. Louis game blew my mind. The team completely gelled and played like a single unit. There might be more setbacks (like a stretch of bad goaltending like in December), but I strongly feel like they have a chance to make the playoffs or even go on a streak and win the Division.

Ken Holland and Dave Tippett seem like geniuses right now. Holland spent no team assets over the summer (except to dump Lucic) but somehow got the depth that Edmonton has been lacking for some time. Tippett somehow got players like Bear to give 110% and become key players on the team.

Edmonton has a great coaching staff on the farm and it shows: every prospect called up has been quality. Bear, Russell, Jones and Yamamoto so far - with Benson to draw in tonight for his first NHL game.

I hope that Benson can shine like the others have. But so far, he has been invisible to my eyes out there. The San Jose/Coyotes games were brutal and the team was looking flat so no chance for him to shine yet. Tippett was not really rolling 4 lines in those games from what I saw, so that was obviously a factor. Obviously waaayyy too early to tell anything yet.
