How so? Pageau is a 30-point player who will be 3C in Edmonton and whose contract is expiring in July.

I was thinking more like I dont know if id do Pinto for Puljujarvi as a Sens fan. But its been rumoured that Pageau is gonna get a late 1st and if Edmonton is in 1st place in their division come deadline, I can see them trading their 1st for Pageau or Kreider. Pageau would make their 3rd line really good. Kreider would play with RNH on the 2nd line

I don't think so... Backes can play on the 4th line and help us get to the floor next season. The 1st is the cost of doing business. Plus Boston gets some depth with Tierney and DeMelo playing 3rd line C and 3rd line D. Also, it may help them keep the hot streak going vs Toronto in the playoffs smile.

That's a win for the Sens.

Pageau is so hot right now! Edmonton is too top heavy and they need a good defensive center who can play 3rd line C and chip in when needed. Also, he's a great PK player that is invaluable in the playoffs!

Tierney and Demelo are both worth a 2nd at the very least individually. Which you can say 2 2nd rounders is about equal to a late 1st especially with Boston being the best in the league its likely to be 26th-31st. So youre left with a 3rd for Backes and a 2nd which I dont think is enough incentive to take on 1 more year of Backes

I have a hard time seeing Pageau getting a 1st, to be honest. Any sane GM can see that his current boxcars aren't typical of the player: he's shooting 22.4% this year vs a career average of 9.3%. He's a good bottom 6 defensive center who likely won't contribute much offensively - in a league that pays for points, that has limited value.

Edmonton has the 2nd best PK in the league, so that's not a pressing need. And I don't believe anyone will pay extra at the deadline for a career 9% shooter just because he shot 22% in October and November.

Fine, we'll send him to Vegas for their 1st then and watch Pageau get the series winning goal vs the Oilers in game 5 of the 1st round... enjoy

Vegas has one of the smartest management teams in the league. They aren't about to give up their 1st for Pageau when they didn't have to for Stone who had already agreed to an extension! laugh

thats a couple times now Ott rosters have Hainsey going to the Avs, why is this becoming a thing? I dont see avs having any interest in Hainsey. They have Barberio and Connauton in the minors and they are just cheaper similar versions of him.

this guys is a big time Oilers homer and over values their current roster...most Oiler fans would say their biggest needs is a C to be 2C or 3C bc their C depth is horrible beyond McDavid Nuge and with Nuge being hurt right now its not deep into the playoffs caliber C Depth.

Pageau is exactly the kind of guy they should be targeting bc they dont have time to mess around. Cant mess up the magical year they are getting from McDavid and Drai bc their window is slamming shut so fast

LOL, nothing I've said in this thread has anything to do with valuation of Oilers players - nothing. So STFU with your nonsense.

And Edmonton has at least a 10 year window in front of them, you couldn't be more wrong with that statement. Shows you know nothing.

you have in the past, notorious for it. When you talk about Puljujärvi value etc.
Edmonton has a year and a half window with how mismanaged the cap is and once the Nuge deal is done. then it becomes very difficult to resign him. When almost every oilers fan I talk to (I live in Alberta) say the same thing. The clock is ticking to do something right now, you wont have McDavid waiting forever

you have a 10 year window with Koskinen? hahaha You realize you need more than him to compete long term. There is no goalie prospect in the Oilers org even close to being NHL ready

I'm not sure I've ever put a valuation on Puljujarvi at all. When I comment on Puljujarvi trades, it's usually in reference to what Holland is looking for in return, not what I personally think he's worth. Big difference, sorry if you misunderstood.

And the Oilers don't have cap issues going forward, and even this year all of their "bad" contracts are actually playing well right now and contributing to their winning record. Think about it: Neal is 7th in the league in goals, Koskinen is 7th in the league for save percentage and Russell is sporting a 61.11 GF%.

The Oilers Cup window is only just starting to open now and will be open for 10+ years with proper management, which I think they have in place now. They will have no problem at all re-signing Nugent-Hopkins in 2021 even if it means $8M per year, and they have tons of young talent coming up (especially on defense) to help support the current core going forward. Things are just starting to get interesting in Edmonton.

I didint know you had mcdavid signed for 10+ years? Oilers are only as competitive as long as McDavids contract is...thats 6 years or as long as he wants to be there. There is no cup window beyond his current contract

10+ cup window...Koskinen is playing well now but hes 31 with 2 years left on his deal, who is going to be your starting goalie next? There isnt anyone in the oilers org that looks even close to being starting potential

To my point you are over valuing Oilers players and projecting well beyond makes huge leaps of faith.
Oilers done have cap issues....you have 10 players signed wit only 23m in cap, which includes re upping Bear and Nurse. After their extensions its going to be slim pickings once again to fill out the renaming 11 roster spots. You need to be realistic about these thing.
