if he keeps up this same pace, i would look at something similar to what marcus johansson cost last year or what nyqvist/zuccarello went for. 2nd and 3rd conditional picks in different years.

if hayes can get a first and lemieux then I would imagine it's the same or a little bit more than him.

Add a 2021 3rd rounder cause Kreider is younger but I think I'll take it

Two seconds and a bottom 6 player? Could give some young-ins more ice time.

theyre going to try and milk as much as they possibly can out of him if they chose to trade him. they are going to not except any deal without a first rounder and a prospect be it an a b or c level.

I agree with this, but probably add a B+/B prospect too.

Hayes was a center which historically yield higher returns than wingers. It was also a relatively weaker draft this past draft, as opposed to this upcoming draft, which is supposedly very deep. I think those distinctions yield a lesser return for kreider.

I'd like to think NYR could get a 1st round pick plus a prospect that could be a good role player on the 4th line - if not more. But if the trade market is stingy, I believe Gorton would take two conditional 2nd round picks in separate years. Next years draft the 2nd becomes a 1st round pick if the acquiring team makes it to the finals. And the year after draft, the 2nd becomes a 1st round pick if the acquiring team resigns Kreider or a 7th round pick (In addition to the 2nd round pick) if Kreider's rights are traded (Like Hayes' was to Philly) just prior to July 1st.

Wont work like that. Mojo and kreider at similar age have similar statlines and point share etc etc. It alll comes down to need and desperation but its likely a 2ndor 3rd if you add a prospect.

Hypothetically, a combination of the three below:

-Conditional 1st based on playoff success, guaranteed 2nd for 2020.
-Conditional 1st based on signing, guaranteed 2nd for 2021.
-Replacement player for cap purposes
-Prospect

I don't think he'll get 2 conditional 1st round picks plus more, just based on previous deadlines. Here are the nearest comps:

2018 deadline

Tatar: 1st + 2nd + 3rd https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/118714
Kane: O'Regan + 1st + 4th https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/118740

2019 deadline

Johansson: 2nd + 4th https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/205489
Nyquist: 2nd + 3rd* https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/205147
Simmonds: Hartman + 4th** https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/205471

* The 2020 3rd round pick will upgrade to a 2020 2nd round pick if the Sharks advance to the Stanley Cup Final or if Nyquist re-signs with the Sharks. Condition not met.
** The 2020 4th round pick upgrades to a 2020 3rd round pick if Nashville wins one round in the 2018-19 playoffs. Condition not met.

If anything your comps prove Kreider should get a 1st round pick plus a lot more than I was even suggesting. Stat wise, size wise, speed wise, and great teammate wise, Kreider is better than all the players you listed in comparison.

I am not picking either/or. I think instead of a first its 2nd and 3rd rounders in descending years, plus a prospect, which I think teams would rather do than a first. Also, it could certainly work like that it's just not common, but teams this year have stacked their rosters towards the 50 man limit, so teams may want to send a prospect to have more roster flexibility. See the rick nash trade to the bruins; they added a bunch of players though it's not as common; anything can happen.
