I don't like this Coyle contract at all, and the Wagner one is too much for what he offers IMO. Free Agency always makes things difficult - I just see far better worth than Coyle for 5.25M... look at the recently signed Konecny. Coyle is producing at a third line rate, so should either get a similar contract to Bozak on STL for shorter term, or less money.

(Also this Chara thing - I feel like he will pull a Mike Fisher and retire then return later in the season)

Will note that I'm not a bruins fan and rarely watch their games - I do keep ties on what happens though.... that said

Krejci still works here. His contract is hefty, but he is producing at it's worth. There aren't many teams that I see ready to absorb him - and I don't think the value he would get is as high as the fans of this team would expect.

So you just look at the stat sheet? That adds up

Disagree, they are both good signings. Both right shots that can play C and RW (wagner lw also). K. Hayes got $7m+, sure makes that Coyle contract look good. Bruins need a C to span the generational gap between Bergy/Krejci and Studnicka/Beecher/Frederick, Coyle is a perfect fit.

I think its about what we thought coyle would get. I hate the wagner deal. he cant play anywhere but that 4th line and you can get those guy, its not a crazy contract but still. the big question is does coyle prevent them from resigning krug or is this just the start of all of the moves

i think it will be time to move on from krech at the draft to make space to resign krug, and potentially land a legitimate top6 RW in return for him. Coyle moves up to 2C and his production will increase as well making this deal look solid. Stud or freddy will take 3C

Lol. Could not be more wrong. If you actually watched their games Coyle has been one of if not the best all around player on the ice most nights.

He will likely be RW2 next year with Studnicka moving to C3.

Wagner at 1.35 is a bargain. Leads the team in hits, kills penalties, forechecks, gives max effort every shift. Chipped in 12 goals last year too. Won Bruins 7th Man Award last year. That contract is less than Schaller got when he left and he’s twice the player.

More to the game than the box score.

I get this. The dollar values to me are fine. It's the term. Do you really want a 4th line guy fixed for this long? You also have Ritchie as an RFA. There's the possibility he gets let go, but then again if he isn't that's another 1.25+ per season. Wagner is pretty low risk.

Then the thing with Coyle: He might be well rounded, but those well rounded guys with limited offense often just move further down the lineup with time. Eriksson was a well rounded guy with offensive upside, and now he is is pretty much a $6 million scratch who can kill penalties. I'm not saying Coyle will be that now, but a number of years from now when more prospects are in search of ice time (And have the offensive upside), he will be gradually pushed down.
Essentially I'm saying Coyle deserved a Bozak type deal, not the security of a top end guy. My title might catch people off guard. They aren't horrible deals, but I don't think they are what they should be (which is the case for pretty much every deal in this league)

I watch highlights. I follow stats... It doesn't really matter?
We shouldn't need to be experts to make posts on here. I might be a hometown Canucks + Flyers fan, but I enjoy making these posts for other teams as well.

There's the casual type people on here - those that are educated and those whose knowledge is limited, and there are those who try and act as if they are the GM themselves. Don't be part of the latter.

I understand that. I just think it’s weird to criticize the Wagner contract when you’re just getting your picture from the stat sheet and highlights. He’s a fourth liner. He’s not going to show up on either too often. That contract is a steal. He left a lot of money on the table to stay in Boston.

I would have preferred 3-5 years. UFA. ??‍♂️ They get longer bigger contracts. Someone would have given him 5X5+. I was not in on negotiations. It’s possible B’s offered 4, agent wanted 8, settled on 6. Who knows. It’s not heavily front loaded. Still making 4.5 in year 6. So it ensures him he should stay in Boston. Turns 34 at the end of the contract. So most of it will be in his prime. The $ was what he was going to get on open market. The years. ??‍♂️

Not ideal in length, but i can live with it. It’s better than losing him FA and trying to replace him with Simmonds, Kassian, Granlund, Eakin, Craig Smith type in FA.
