Isis Brad Marchand the best player in the league

Created by: Bcarlo25
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 28, 2019
Published: Nov. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This will ruffle some feathers. I’m not really venturing an opinion either way, but let’s run down some numbers, under the context that he is elite defensively.
Per 60 minute stats:
Goals: 2nd (behind pastrnak)
Even strength goals: 1st
Assists: 2nd, just behind Draisaitl.
EV assists: 4th, behind barkov, Malkin, rantanen.
Points: first. By a lot.
EV points: First. By a full point per 60. Marchand is at 4.975, second is Draisaitl at 3.95. That’s insane.

Again, all this in the context that he’s elite defensively, getting tough match ups every night, playing penalty kill etc.

It’s not ridiculous. It’s a legitimate question. If you have to win one hockey game tomorrow, is he the first guy picked? Probably not, but maybe.

Mcdavid, Marchand has has certainly barged his way into the top 10 in the league over the past few years and I would say now he is a top 5 forward.

As an Oiler fan, my answer to this day is still Crosby. This isn't to disregard Marchand or the superduo in Edmonton - or even the often overlooked MacKinnon - but if I'm in a World-vs-Aliens scenario, Sidney is always going to be my first pick. There isn't a better hockey player on the planet in terms of ability, production, or defensive viability.

Marchand, I believe, really benefits from having the defensive assurances of Bergeron and super-competent defenders and goaltenders. Having one of the best "next-generation" scorers for a right wing definitely wouldn't hurt his production. McDavid and Draisaitl are starting to show the defensive acumen, but they aren't there yet despite their actual production still being ahead of Marchand's. In all, I'd say in terms of "best player in the game right now" I'd probably have Marchand inside my top-5. He's an exceptional talent on arguably the best team in the league since the turn of the decade, and all NHL fans (despite his being a rat) should enjoy watching him perform in the peak of his career before we don't have that opportunity anymore.

This might be the best post that has graced this site. Well done sir.

I love the space jam analogy, and I agree with it fully. I think in order if i had to pick a starting five, I would go Crosby, Doughty (I know, I’m crazy, this is a one game scenario), McDavid, Marchand, Hedman (if healthy)

Lol, hardly. Leading goal scorer. Sure.

His defense is atrocious.

look, he's automatically disqualified for licking people's faces ok.

Lets just end it there.

What kind of human being does that? too many bath salts.

He’s a very good defensive player. Active stick. Good positionally. Maybe cheats a little bit to the offensive side of the puck on occasion, but that’s about it. Pretty darn consistent on the forecheck too. I don’t know what game you’re watching, but it isn’t hockey.

I can’t understand people being mad about that. It happened. It was freaking hilarious. He got chewed out for it, and it’s over. That was two years ago.

And kissing komorav, I like that a lot better than the Speering and other dumb ****... in fact I like it a lot. Think it’s hilarious. Same as when he mocks people for diving.

I hate the bruins and Marchand but gotta give credit where its due. He’s incredible - definitely top 3 winger in the league.

Lol, holy jesus you are such a homer.

The only thing separating him from Dmitri Kvartalnov is he at least makes an effort to try to play D. Special K needed a GPS to find the defensive zone and someone to push him into it.

He’s the worst defensive player on the team. And if you made a list of the leagues worst he’d likely be on it.

Could very well be. Does not make him the best PLAYER in the league. Makes him maybe the best goal scorer.

has bcarlo hurt ur feelings recently or what. I feel like ur only attacking him instead of trying to prove pasta is a bad defender. Idk how u can say that anyway, theres a reason y cassidy has increasingly trusted pasta in defensive situations. Sure his defense may have been bad when he was a rookie and sophomore but he has matured in that category 100%. The difference is night and day. Instead of trying to throw personal attacks at bcarlo you should explain your reasoning as a civil human

Question you need to ask yourself is. If you are starting a new team and had first pick out of any player in the league who would it be? The answer would never be Marchand the answer should be McDavid.

It’s all good. He’s made it onto the ignore list. He’s entitled to his opinions, i just have no use for them.

Then why have his defensive zone starts gone down each year if Cassidy trusts him more?

C’mon. I am not denigrating Pasta as a player or the value he brings to the team. I doubt i’d be willing to trade him for anyone.

But to even intimate that he is ok defensively is sticking your head in the sand delusional.

So prove it. Thats all they are asking. If you think he sucks defensively, back it up
