Description
There is a reason I chose these specific players. You have to choose those players only. There is no other options.

This isn't what would you do differently. Its only what would you do with these options available to you.
Trades
1.
MTL
If you had to trade 2 of these guys, (separately or in same deal doesn't matter) for top pairing LHD. Who would you choose?

Assume the goal is to get top pairing dmen. (LHD) and if you had to add picks in order to reach the value for the other team you could.
    2.
    MTL
If you had to trade 2 of these guys, who would you trade?

Assume its for a 4-6 quality LHD dman.

**This has nothing to with above trade, they're not connected in anyway. Just individual questions.
      3.
      MTL
If you had to trade both these guys this year at TDL with 50% retention or next year with 50% retention, what would you choose?

*both of them at same time. Not one of the other. Assume the return is for picks and prospects only. No immediate/proven help.

        1. I would trade Danault and Suzuki to a team like Nashville for Ekholm. The deal would look like this:

        Montreal Canadiens
        Matthias Ekholm
        Austin Watson

        Nashville Predators
        Phillip Danault
        Nick Suzuki
        2020 4th MTL

        2. In the next trade I would move Lekhonen and Armia to a team like Colorado. Deal would be:

        Montreal Canadiens
        Ian Cole
        2020 4th COL

        Colorado Avalanche
        Artturi Lehkonen
        Joel Armia
        2020 6th MTL

        3. This one is a toughy. I would do this though:

        Montreal Canadiens
        Nick Bjugstad
        2020 1st PIT
        2021 3rd PIT
        2020 3rd PIT
        Sam Miletic

        Pittsburgh Penguins
        Jeff Petry (50% Retained)
        Thomas Tatar (50% Retained)

        To break it down:
        Tatar (50%) = Bjugstad + 3rd
        Petry (50%) = Miletic + 1st + 3rd

Lol you missed the point. I wasn't asking for who they would be traded for. I want to know who from the bunch you would pick or would you this trade, etc

The minute you put players coming back it distorts everyone's perception because everyone values those other players differently. For example, that Colorado trade made me gag a little. lol See what i mean?

KK + Poehling for a top pairing LD

Lehkonen + Armia for a 2nd/3rd pairing LD

Next year-See where you're sitting at around the deadline.

        Hmm interesting.

Just a side note for anyone else seeing this also, it doesn't have to be in the same trade though. It doesn't have to be Lehkonen and Armia or KK an Poehling. They all could be traded separately. The LHD I'm speaking about could be acquired with picks and prospects received from trading these four guys at a later time.

This isn't a which two of these guys will net me a LHD. its which of these guys are the ones you're willing to part with right now with the goal of getting LHD. Directly or indirectly.

        I would trade

        1st : Kotkaniemi

2nd : Lehkonen (he has lot of value for his defensive responsability)

3rd : I'll trade Petry (Because we already have Weber, Juuslen, Fleury, Brook on the right)

if I can cheat a little, why I put KK there is because I tought of Werenski as a return

        Poehling + picks

        Armia or Byron + picks

Tatar AND Petry both 50% retained for picks

Why Poehling ? I can’t see Montreal not resigning Danault, he is great. Kotkaniemi is our future #1-2 Center, Suzuki is a stud so don’t touch him and Domi will be a top6 LW with Drouin.

Why Armia Byron ? MTL have Caufield Gallagher Ylonen Suzuki who can play on the RW, so Armia can be trade comes TDL. Byron is a good veteran, I dont care if we trade him or keep him, he’s a good locker room guy. I wouldn’t trade Lehkonen, he can play everywhere in the lineup, the second best PK guy after Danault, I think he will be a MTL Canadiens for the next 6 years

Trade Tatar and Petry for picks, we are still rebuilding

I think the team needs to accept that they are a middle of the pack team at best - so take a step back, miss the 2020 playoffs, and concentrate on collecting more high-end picks and prospects.

So first Domi goes because he's near-peak value. Danault would be next although i'd prefer to keep him to protect and mentor the young centers over the next 3-4 years. Keep Kotka, Poehling, Suzuki as they are the likely future core.

For the second group, I'd keep Armia he has the most value and they need a bit of size. But if the price is right all 3 can go.

Third group, I'd move both Petry and Tatar at this year's TDL. Maximize the value coming back as they would not be considered pure rentals this year. Maybe Habs could pick up a couple of extra first round picks for 2020. I like them both but their value can only decline from here.

        1. Poehling, I can't choose a second, none of them are available.
        2. Byron + Armia, however I don't think we should trade Armia.
        3. This year. If we trade them next year it means we are going to rebuild. The extra year adds more value.
