Why did Rossi drop? He's outscoring both Lafreniere and Byfield (P/GP) and he's amazing defensively.

Also, what do you think the odds are that Byfield goes 1OA? I'm thinking it's got to be close to 50/50.

At this point I can't imagine Drysdale or Perfetti getting picked ahead of Rossi.

It's about who is generating chances for themselves. Perfetti is doing more overall, while Rossi is amazing, he does have better teammates around him with Keating, Garreffa, Hoefenmayer, and Bahl all feeding him is a big step up over Damien Giroux, Cole Coskey, and Ilya Solovyov. It wasn't even necessarily Rossi dropping as it was Stutzle rising.

I think Drysdale definitely goes before him as there will be a team needing defence priority and so far he's the consensus top d-man. Perfetti is looking like a better forward prospect at this point in my opinion. It's just an amazing draft this year.

As for Lafreniere vs Byfield. I think it's closer to 80/20 in favour of Lafreniere. He's definitely the best available, but if a team is desperate for a top centre such as say if Ottawa win's the lottery. I think they would take Byfield.

Thanks for the input - I don't follow OHL closely so I don't pretend to be an expert, but Rossi's 2.30 P/GP is pretty close to McDavid's 2.55 in his draft year. Also, Rossi has points on 43% of his team's goals vs Perfetti's 39% - despite the fact that Rossi has missed 18% of the games!!

It's quite possible, but I wouldn't do it: he's undersized for the NHL and not great defensively. He'll go high, and deservedly so, but I wouldn't pick him above Rossi.




Byfield has a LOT more going for him than just his position. He's much bigger and stronger, he's faster, he plays in a slightly better league and he's almost a year younger. If we compare stats for age, he comes out looking pretty good:

Byfield
15: 34, 48-44-92 [2.71 P/GP] AAA level
16: 64, 29-32-61 +12 [0.95 P/GP]
17: 30, 22-35-57 +17 [1.90 P/GP] and counting...

Lafreniere:
15: 36, 33-50-83 [2.31 P/GP] AAA level
16: 60, 42-38-80 +35 [1.33 P/GP]
17: 61, 37-68-105 +52 [1.72 P/GP]

And don't forget to ding Lafreniere for playing on a better team!
