Sundin because he didn't have the luxury of playing with a clone of himself

Joe because throughout his career he's been so unworldly talented that he ruined the careers of many of his teammates because after a while they forgot how to play hockey as they transitioned to just camping by the hashmarks. Heatley, Setoguchi, Cheechoo all fell victim to being spoon-fed 8-9 one-timers a game. You could make the argument that Joe Thornton ruined as many promising hockey careers as Scott Stevens in the complete opposite way.

Well since I'm here...

Both are incredible talents and I'm not as confident in my declaration as my previous post but I'll say Eric gets the nod because of his performance during the 2006 playoffs. At no point in his career did Getzlaf ever elevate his game to that level.

That's a tough one. I'd say peak, Staal was better but overall Getzlaf.

Sundin, hands down. Put the team on his back and dragged them into the playoffs. World class leader.

Sundin rarely had great linemates to work with and still managed to elevate everyone he played with. Remember Honus Hogland? That guy wasn't an NHL player but Sundin turned him into a 30 goal scorer. Its hard to say but imagine Sundin on the Leafs now? Imagine Marner or Nylander feeding him? Imagine him working down low against todays small NHL defenceman and them not being allowed to drape themselves all over Sundin. It would be pretty special.

My age prohibits me from fairly assessing Kent Nilsson so I'm bowing out of that question

Yes I remember Jonas. Have 2 of his hockey cards. Boy, he sure didn't have the skill to play in the NHL. He wasn't fast, physical nor did he have good hands or agility. I never fully realized how big of a star Mats was until all the memories came back.

Yeah, he was a special player. I wonder how good he would be in these times. A 6'4" 230 pounder with silky smooth hands, a terrific shot, and strong as an ox. Give me a 24 year old Sundin on this Leafs team and he'd be insanely good.

No doubt. Do you think Sundin was better than Malkin?

No I don't think he was better than him. Maybe as good but I think Malkin is a better skater and just more explosive offensively.
