Description
Pretty sure every team should be cool with this. Hard-pressed to believe this team doesn't win the Western Conference. Would be a hell of a summer in Edmonton.

A handful of these ideas - or elements of them - are not organically mine and I wanna thank those responsible for the root of the ideas. Y'all know who you are.

Curious as to who you think would stand in their way. My list as of right now is Boston, Washington, and maybe the Islanders.

The Western Conference is wide open right now. I doubt the Oilers would have much in terms of difficulty making it to the Final with this roster and the West set up the way it is right now.

It may be fair value but I would hope the Wild decline. Not really impressed with the return.

Would it be somewhat more appealing if Edmonton's 2021 2nd Round Pick was conditional on the one being sent to the Rangers? Like if Edmonton actually won the thing, Minny would get the 2020 pick instead?

Switch the 2nd to a 1st, and the Rangers take that deal. But you're asking them to trade you a Top 6 winger with an extension, for a cap dump, a bust, and 2 picks which you admit you think will be late in the round, neither of which is a 1st at present.

"Hard-pressed to believe this team doesn't win the Western Conference."

This is as simple as changing the condition from the Oilers winning the cup to the Oilers making the Cup Finals. Not a huge deal tbh

If Kreider would sign that deal the Rangers would resign him themselves.

Or, perhaps, the Rangers aren't looking to resign Kreider in order to flip him for assets and free up that cap hit for something else (Deangelo contract)?

True, they have a decision to make with Strome as well. The next ten weeks will be important as far as sorting things out goes.

How about "making the playoffs"

EDIT: Kreider's probably looking for the Hayes contract btw, not the one you've got him signing

Yes. The problem really is I'm not sold on Yamamoto or marody as prospects. I mean Donato I'll give him to you for a 3rd but Fiala has really been so much better since October. I just think the Wild should hold on to him and see if he can continue to improve.

The Oilers currently sit second in the West. There have been only four teams in the last six years to have missed the playoffs while performing at a clip similar to the 19/20 Oilers. They're making the playoffs unless Draisaitl and McDavid get hurt. Considering the conventional ask for Kreider is somewhere around a pair of 2nd Round PIcks, you're completely overblowing what an extended Kreider is worth. The Rangers clearly have interest in Puljujarvi, you're acquiring that coveted 1st Round Pick, and you're receiving compensation for his signing in 2021. The Rangers are getting a good deal here and you claiming otherwise is nothing short of pure homer-ism.

Kreider can ask for Hayes money all he wants, but he's not a centerman. He'll get something very close to the Nyquist deal (which is $300k cheaper than this deal, I could spare an extra year if I needed to).

Which there's nothing wrong with keeping him because you think there's more there. I don't think the Wild would be particularly smart to move him if their option is to start rebuilding now. He's young enough that if you take a few years to find players to build around him, the Wild should be in pretty good shape. This is me trying to take advantage of the WIld not knowing what they need to sell off and what they need to keep. I was more concerned about the raw value of the deal, but I knew that getting a player that young who's only starting to really figure out how to produce in Minnesota would be a bit of a pipe dream.
