For Better or For Worse Part 10

Created by: oilnate
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 30, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So upon working on the 2020-2021 roster I realized a few problems. By bringing on Helm I cannot sign Kassian unless I move on from Russell. Which is fine but not my personal preference. So here is my revamped roster for 2018-2019. Apologies for that OG roster and having you guys read all that. If Gagner keeps it up and gathers some confidence getting Nuge's minutes, then maybe he can be the third line centre. Seeking suggestions. At this point looking for either a rental or someone with term that is cheap. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks!

Wouldn't trade Jones. Don't think you need both Donato/Fiala (pick one; I prefer Fiala). Yes to trading Russell next season (why you need to keep Jones). Gagner is not a 3C and will not even be on the team next year.

Well I'm either trading Jones or Benning in the package and got told that Jones should go now with our LHD surplus, then Benning at the draft. I don't really have a preference on trading Russell or not. If we need cap space then yes absolutely but otherwise he's a very serviceable solid third pairing guy who helps kill penalties. I think JP will be moved in a package and this is one I chose because it helps long-term and short term. I think Donato is a good third liner and we really do not have a good third line. Fiala brings speed and skill to pair with Nuge and offset Neals shortcomings. I don't disagree with gagner. I had to revamp the Detroit trade though because neither is Helm. I'd be interested in a guy like Tierny or Eakin but Vegas probably won't trade with us and Tiernyy might cost to much. Maybe Bjugstad is a target.

This is all very sound reasoning, particularly realizing that Jones is surplus to your needs with that left side plus Broberg in the system. I think Minnesota would gladly take that offer. @TanSor ? @MNBassman ? @JayTea ?

I realize that it might seem ironic to pick up Hicketts as well, but I know Ken likes him and I'm not sure Marody can be that third centre

Maybe you throw Marody to Minnesotta instead of Jones. They need more RH forwards and young ones at that too? Cancel the Detroit trade altogether. What can Minnesotta give with Puljujarvi and Marody? I'd rather have both Jones and 2nd round pick over Marody. I'd think this gives Minnesotta an out to getting younger. While we're at it, maybe check what Staal costs

I can't see Staal waiving his ntc for here but i'd be interested.

After the November Fiala had, I'm guessing Guerin holds on to him unless it's an overpay. He's starting to look more consistent and hopefully is going to be close to the player Fenton thought he was that he gave up Granlund for.
