The trade value is pretty close. The issue is whether the Leafs can give up both Johnsson and Kap and whether the Hawks will part with Murphy as he's been their best defender now going back to last season.

Then lets talk about that deal because it sure looks amazing for Leafs.

It's not far off, maybe a pick going back to Chicago.

Hawks are in need of getting a couple fast wingers especially at least a guy that can play on the 1st line. Nylander isn't cutting it in Chicago IMO. Shaw is a fan favorite and would hurt to see him go but we have a lot of grit and checking, we need speed. Lehner is a rental, Hawks will bid for his services in the offseason and likely get him back at the right price. Murphy hurts...he's been outstanding going back to last season so that's a big pill to swallow; however, the Hawks have a ton of defensive prospects so ultimately two of Maatta, Murphy, Gus and DeHaan will need to go as Seabs isn't moveable, Keith isn't going anywhere. This is purely from a position that our season is over.

Makes sense to me. I like that you are thinking outside the box and for the greater good of the team moving forward instead of blindly waiving your BlackHawks pom-poms in everybody's face because you are a fan of the team. We need more of that kind of lateral thinking around this place.

Thanks for posting.

If Rocky Wirtz does the right thing and fires our President and GM, this team can start a massive overhaul and be competitive in the next season, maybe two. Problem is we have a GM who keeps thinking we can add some vets and compete when the problem is much deeper then that.

I know the feeling. As a Leafs fan, I lived it for the better part of two decades. Not a fun place!!

I disagree that this is fair as a hawks fan. I think we can get a better package for Lehner alone instead of including him in this package. I am interested in AJ tho and if it means taking on a few months of ceci to get him that is fine.

While the value is in the leafs favour, I don't know that this makes a lot of sense for us. we need a backup goalie, not an elite starter... I'd rather go for a cheaper option like de smith and keep kap/johnny, simply because while lehner is very good and the value is in favour of Toronto, we just don't need another starter- very interesting idea though for sure

well slow down a bit... keep in mind that lehner is on an expiring contract so I don't think you could get that for JUST lehner

I don't like it. I think A Nylander isn't very good and Shaw's contract I am not a fan of. Is Murphy that much better than Ceci?

Why not Johnsson for Lehner with a balanced cap hit?

No I didnt mean lehner for this leafs package I meant Lehner going somewhere else for like a conditional first and decent prospect.

Sorry. This highly favors the leafs. 2 middle 6 forwards One who could be a 3rd or 4th line center in a pinch, a number one goalie who has fairly good stats this season with a pretty bad d core also half retained, and most likely Chicago’s best defenseman right now. They get back an overplayed but okay defenseman, and 2 middle 6 wings... take out Nylander and it’s a little more fair.

I don't think Lehner would reel in both Kap and Johnsson...c'mon that is over the top in the Hawks favor.

Ceci couldn't carry Murphy's jock. That one is a no brainer. Less money, more term, more skill. Absolute no brainer if you are comparing the two players alone.

It wouldn't and, you are correct. Remember what I said earlier about home town views? It begins! I love the chaos that this has created. Fantastic juice here!

I just don't think Murphy is really anything special kind of like Ceci. It's not like you trading for top pair defenceman, you are getting another bottom 4 guy who is a bit better. That doesn't really change much.

Goes both ways. Now there is a Leafs AGM offering Johnson and Ceci for Murphy and Crow at 50%....unreal! lol

That's not true. Bottom 4, top 4...how about middle pair? lol Anyway, Murphy is easily a top pair on Toronto and a 2nd pairing on most teams. Ceci is a 3rd pairing on most teams and $2M overpaid. Murphy is one of the most underrated defensive players in the league...he's not only an awesome defender he's tough.

It is pointless debating logic with somebody who is so set in their views like you are. So I won't. If that is your view of Connor Murphy, you are incorrect in your assessment. He would instantly become one of if not the Leafs best defensman.

No thats not what Im saying. Think we can get a better deal with another team just using Lehner. I.E. conditional first and prospect.
