Gallagher's not going anywhere, but if he were it would cost more than that. I mean at least make the 2nd pick a 1st to start off with.

Wow - I thought the return was generous, if anything

The return is generous, but you are going to have to pay a kings ransom for him

Well from my perspective Puljujarvi is very much a question mark who has been nothing more than replacement level in the NHL in 3 seasons this far. He's doing well right now in Finland but I wouldn't be ready to bet big on him transitioning that success to the NHL yet.

Yamamoto is probably where we differ most in our evaluation. I was never a fan of his and don't think he will end up being a top 6 player. He reminds me of David Desharnais; good playmaker and powerplay specialist but not really a guy you like seeing against top opposition at 5 on 5.

Jones is a good player and probably more of a 5/6 guy who could play up if needed like our Cale Fleury, would be a good addition but not at the price of Gallagher.

Essentially this comes down to how optimistic a person is of Yamamoto and Puljujarvi's future. You're understandably more so than me.

Also there are almost no deals I would be ok with involving Gallagher. I know it's hard to understand for fans of other teams how important he is to the Habs but he is the one guy you can always count on to create a spark when the team comes out flat. Having watched the team lack vigor for most of my life, I'd rather not have that happen again.

I think it is a very fair deal. Yes oiler fan overvalue a bit on how much Puljujarvi is worth also yamamotos.
however Gallagher is a good player and MTL fans adore him and often over value what he would get in a trade. If you look at trade history for players that give you about .5 Pts per game this is a very good trade for mtl even if there are questions marks as there always is with prospects.

Also have to take into account MTL good prospects are very young and by the time they are at there prime Gallagher will be in his 30s.
probably best to get 3 solid prospects and a pick. vs what you would get when hes older.
