28 million plus tied up in 32 year old Carey Price, 34 year old Shea Weber and 32 year old Kopitar for 5 seasons. (Price and weber longer)

Yep. You don't trade all of those young assets for a 32 YO on a long term high AAV contract.

If the Habs were contenders, its maybe not a bad deal. But the way things are, its a horrible deal for MTL.

There's no way it's a good deal for any team in the league, regardless of how close to the cup they are.

Yeah no way Kopitar is waiving his NMC for Montreal, Pretty sure he'd stay in LA over going to Montreal.
