Got to get better than Crawford. Johnsson can go I could care less but its got to be for someone who is 2+ years of solid cheaper backup agree?

I'd have a tough time justifying trading a 25yo winger signed reasonably for the next 3+ seasons for a 34yo UFA backup goalie. I'd like to think a cheaper option would be available somewhere, somehow

But you can you get that is going to be a solid backup for the next 2 years for sure? I think the plan is that one of Scott or Woll become the heir apparent but that is a ways a way and in the meantime, I think its important that Andersen stays healthy and fresh so getting him a good backup for this year is important. If the Leafs had even average goaltending from their backups, I think they'd be 6-10 points higher than they are currently. And there is no worry about anything in Leaf land. Obviously that hasn't been the case, so what to do about it. I'd prefer Lehner but Crawford for 1 year is an elite backup that can platoon for the remainder of the season and then keep Andersen ready. And if he gets hurt, well now we have a legit #1 still.

Personally I'd want Lehner with retention for Johnsson but Crawford is still a legit #1 who can platoon with Andersen for the remainder of the season and keep him fresh for the playoffs. Johnsson is a good player but look behind him and the Leafs have a tonne of guys who can do what he does, some possibly better. He needs to be the net front guy on his line and isn't big enough to do so. I'd like to see someone who can clean up the rebounds better playing with matthews and nylander anyways.

As a Moncton resident I have followed Crawford since his days here with the Wild Cats. I have found that he has been looking very average for even a $3 MILLION cap hit. I would prefer Lehner with retention as you know.

What about Nilsson from Ottawa? We've all seen plenty of ACGMs of Georgiev, Stalock and other backups around the league but not one with Nilsson.

Shouldn't take an arm and leg to get him either, right?

Certainly on ice value and for the future the Leafs oose big. But if they are desperate to make the playoffs and no reason to think the Leafs are going to make the playoffs....then maybe as Logan suggested the Leafs have to make this trade.

Me too and if that happened I'd be thrilled.

Thanks, and the way I see it is, this team isn't perfect but they are better than they have looked earlier. They can't afford to run Andersen into the ground or play a backup who allows 5 goals every game. Something will be done and instead of rolling the dice with some other backup that could very well not work out, why not just go get a guy we know is going to be excellent. If it costs us a good young player to do so, Johnsson's the one I would move.

I agree with the idea but I don’t know if my first call would be to Chicago if we’re dangling a player like Johnsson. For Lehner yeah, but if Chicago only willing to part with Crawford. Start inquiring from other teams and then if Crawford is in fact best we can get, then we have to do it. We can’t run Hutch out there again
