I don't think this is a good move for the devils to make, but I see them doing this.
If price becomes available teams will overpay for him

Don't think the Avs are giving up that much for just a chance to sign a guy that may not sign with them, and they could just as easily try to sign for free at UFA.

Also I doubt Montreal gives up Price for that.

I agree. That is about what price is worth because of his contract, but teams will overpay for him

Price has been on the decline for a while now I would not give much more then that with retained money that contract is terrible

Habs wouldn't accept this imo. This might even be an overpay. Price isn't the right move for many teams, but with how NJ aquired PK, I see them trying to get price

Avs aren't giving you all that for a rental. And you're not getting a first for Vatanen, either.

C'mon now, I want the biggest return for Hall, but there is no way they put Newhook in a trade without having him extended in Colo

      COL declines this.

People need to be realistic about Hall.
      He's had 2 good seasons.
He's been hurt a lot. He's gonna be 29 next year. Which basically says he's on the decline.
On top of it, any extension. Who wants to sign a 29 year old to an 8 year deal for big money?

There are a lot and I mean a lot of negatives around Hall.
I'm not sure any team who goes after him on a cup run is giving up much because I don't think they are signing him long term. Teams just don't want to sign guys till they are 36 anymore especially at huge cap hits. Especially for a guy who is always injured and isn't playing all that great coming off knee surgery.
So there will be problems for a contract extension from the start.

People need to be way more realistic in their expectations

Price has full NMC . He didn't want to leave the mediocre team when he had the chance so he won't do it now. Besides, that Hall package is an overpayment even in a sign-and-trade

Why would Colorado give that up for Hall when they could get him for free on July 1st?
