I understand where you're coming from. The difficult part of the trade from the MTL perspective is that MTL had a ton of cap space over the summer and could have signed him without giving any assets away. It would be hard for MB to turn around and trade the hometown centerman for Gardiner today.

Yeah the definitely could have signed him, I just think Gardiner had his eyes on only a couple places. I think Gardiner probably had offers of 5m aav on the table.
