Going WILD with trades

Description
I think the Leafs are shopping at the dollar store this year, and won't be making any big moves. This trade probably won't happen until closer to the deadline (health is a big concern here for Minnesota).

I am not 100% sure what the return for these two guys is, but the Wild need some youth badly and are having a rough season. Dubnyk is signed for another year and Stalock isn't exactly future starter potential for them, so it makes sense to maximize a couple of assets right now.

The biggest concern here is the salary cap. The Leafs either need to send some salary to Minnesota or find a way to shed it somehow. I used a creative example, this may not be the answer. Cap space is the biggest issue to making adds, and since we saw a full year of 6.25 was worth a 1st round pick, I'm unsure of what a partial year of 4.5 is worth, and that's likely not enough.

Just trying to get some conversation going and see some outside of the box options. Have a great day all!

Thanks!!!

He has no trade value, that much is apparent. The question is, if you want to improve other parts of the roster, how do you do that staying under the cap? Even though he has been a serviceable player, his cap hit versus his production is the issue. If he is signed at Hyman's level, I don't think this is an issue at all.

Gotta trade ceci, but he's probably worth a mid-round pick

TBH, if he was worth that, Ottawa probably would have moved him for that last year. I don't doubt that he has built some value back up, but with his cap hit I certainly don't think he's an asset that teams are going to be willing to spend for.

Not to mention, any team that wants blueline help probably can't fit him under the cap. If the Leafs want to upgrade, this is probably the way. It also allows them to run a full bench which is a nice plus.

Ceci has very little trade value because of his skill set, (bottom pairing guy), and his cap hit. (2 million dollars heavy at least for what he actually provides). This is a tough trade to make because of those two factors. The Leafs will have to attach "something" of value to him in order to move him.

Now, that being said, the rest of the trades don't solve anything beyond the Leafs backup goalie situation because Pateryn is not a top pairing defensman and also currently on LTIR.

The Wild aren't trading Stalock. They had a rough start, but they're in the playoff conversation now and that's largely thanks to Stalock providing stability for them. As much as I'd love to see them sell off assets and rebuild, that won't happen this year.
