Rumored Hall Trade 1 year in

Created by: SankFeravalli
Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2019
Published: Dec. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m not crazy about this from the Avs perspective.
I wouldn’t mind trading Bowers if I keep Jost, or vice-versa. Those are probably your two best options for the long-term 3C. Losing Timmins is tougher to swallow. I think the value of this suggested trade is pretty fair on both sides. But giving up Timmins is more than just trading away a prospect for Colorado. They expect him to provide high quality play on the right side of the defense, while still on his ELC for the next two years. Instead, the Avs will need to pay/keep some combo of Zadorov, Cole, and Graves to round out the defense, or sign a free agent. With the Hall extension in addition, the cap space dries up really fast, and the Avalanche still have Landeskog, Makar, and Grubauer on expiring contracts.
I think the Avs are better off adding a quality top six forward for one of Jost/Bowers and a draft pick. Just my opinion though.

I think that trade is maybe as good as it will get for the Devils. Im super high on Timmins and think he is a close value to Brannstrom as a D prsopect, take a flyer on a former first rounder in bowers who hasnt shown too much yet and a 1st. Maybe the bruins can beat that deal with Urho Vaakaneinen who I am high on and fits the devils need at LHD, but any good to great D prospect is necessary for the Devils.

I did keep the cap down for a more conservative angle. Even so, between Makar, Landeskog, and Grubauer extensions I would guess the Avs will be adding roughly $10M annually to their payroll. Calvert & Bellemare are the significant expiring contracts in this scenario, and that will only provide a couple million in relief after you replace them, even with sub $1M contacts.

If this is legit, I can see this being a good deal for both sides. But as an Oilers fan I'm not looking forward to facing this powerhouse Avalanche in the Conference Finals each spring.
