Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mikheyev: shoo-in. Leafs fans know just how good he's been this season. Only concern is that he plays himself into a 3.5-4 mil AAV contract.

Kapanen: In. Difficult to replace his speed

Johnsson: Out. Can be moved for a quality return and leafs need that money for defence

Hyman: Out. This one is tough. I love the guy but his contract is just a little high and I think there are enough players in the system who can do what he does on a cheaper deal.

Bracco: Out. I just don't see where he fits on this team and it doesn't make any sense to have him play another year in the minors. Probably could fetch a decent prospect or 3rd round pick.

Tymashov: AHL. Don't think he's much of a waivers risk.

Engvall: In. I've been impressed so far.

Korshkov, Moore, and Marchment: In, rotating healthy scratch. Haven't seen Marchment or Korshkov play much but expect they would be decent 4th line players at the very least

You overpaid Holl.

We are weaker on LW then RW, move Kapanen instead of Johnsson.

TVR is 3rd pair, paying him to be healthy scratch? Pass.

Eakin will likely get more money elsewhere, no reason to pay that much to 4th line C... so many cheap options out there

Rather invest that money in paying Andersen or Riley going forward.

TVR > Holl

Why not spend the extra money and keep Muzzin? He can produce better than Hamonic.
If not you could make a trade with the Avs for Zadorov/Kamenev's rights so Mik can have some Russian buddies. Zads can be a cheaper yet steady 2nd pairing LHD for Sandin, Dermott can go full Brodie and play the right side with Reilly and Kamenev would be a budding 4C who could play up and powerplay minutes if injuries occur. Don't know how bad we need Johnsson or Hyman though, maybe Bracco as our 4RW?

Disagree... Holl>tvr Holl logs bigger minutes.

Holl GAR 4.0 WAR 0.7

TVR GAR -0.9 WAR -0.3

This idea that any Dman is better than leafs Dmen is ridiculous.

Holl has been nothing short of great this season, why would we not re sign him?

Why are there so many ACGMs where Johnsson is being traded?? @Trickster said, Leafs are weaker at LW.
Trading Kapanen makes more sense. And yes Holl > TVR.

Wth ?
What are you smoking?!

Try watching a game and you see that Holl is solid.
He has solidified a new contract with Leafs as far as I am concerned.

Tvr and holl are comparable, though tvr is a more proven commodity. I think there’s definitely the possibility for regression for Holl and the obvious risk of having two young rookie defenseman pencilled into the lineup which is why I dont mind the idea of overpaying for a solid 7th dman.

Not entirely sold on hamonic, but there aren’t many better UFA options (not counting pietrangelo), especially RHDs. Muzzin’s better but I’d be nervous about giving him term. He has racked up some HARD minutes over his career with all those deep playoff runs with the kings and I can’t help but think that his body is going to start to wear down sooner rather than later

As far as defensive th goes I would say we are stronger on the left. Left handed anyway. Certainly more skill on the right with Willy and Mitch. Butt our depth on the left is Johnsson mikheyev Moore engvall Korshkov and Robertson as sure fire nhlers. Then Petan and Timashov. Due to the fact that Hyman is great on the left and with the skill on the right he will most likely stay a left winger... that leaves us with Willy mitch kappy and spezza on the right. I would say our easiest to move pieces would be a left hand winger.

They are comparable for sure... Holl just wins the comparison hands down lol.

I have no problems running Holl next season with Rielly. I think he has been that good. Second pair minimum.

Leafs will have Rielly, Holl, Dermott, sandin, and liljegren.

That leaves one starter slot open. With Dermott ability to seamlessly play the right side it opens up a variety of options for us to go after. From a top pair rhd to a bottom pair lhd... anything will fit.

Definitely agree with @jamiepo. Would also add that kapanen’s skill set is more difficult to replace than johnsson’s. I also think he has more upside if he can ever figure out how to finish.

Also, the lack of d depth has been a huge issue for the leafs. Sandin and liljgren are probably going to be solid for them next year but who knows - that’s a big question mark. I’d rather overpay a proven veteran defenseman to sit in the press box for the whole season than have to watch Martin marincin play 20 minutes a night if there’s an injury, liljegren cant hack it, holl struggles, etc.

I want Keefe to play Holl against better competition. Play him with Rielly for a game or two and see how he handles it. The time to try this sort of thing is right now and not later into the season.

He played him with muzzin against top lines, so did Babs. That says something.
