Is Turris Really That Bad

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2019
Published: Dec. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Predators lose a better player but move a year of money off their books and get at least $500,000 in space (more if Ladd is buried).

Islanders get a solid, if disgruntled middle-6 forward who can bring some stability to the third line.

Ladd has a full NTC through this season, but let's pretend he waives it.

The underlying numbers for Turris aren't bad and say he is a productive player offensively. Just don't expect more than replacement level defense out of him and you'll be fine

I would do this pretty easily if I was NYI.

Well if there would be a guy who could get the most out of him defensively, it would be Trotz. The whole situation with him in NSH is really confusing to me. Like he isn't great and yes, they definitely lost that trade, but you'd think they'd still want to use him in a productive way. I just don't believe he's useless

I was expecting to comment that this wouldn't be a fit, buttttt I can actually see this. I like it. However, if Ladd ever becomes an LTIR candidate we would probably regret trading him away.

I see that too. Old guys with bad contracts have a way of getting "injured," so perhaps it's inevitable. I guess the question is would a Turris bounce-back be worth more to the Islanders than the cap space they might get from Ladd going on LTIR. Tough to say.

I think Ladd will retire in a year or two anyways. Stuck in BP, injury history too long to attract a trade suitor, young guns will always get call ups before he does. He’s in a bad spot and will eventually get sick of it and retire, maybe so he can go play in Europe.

I remember after the Luongo saga, there were a lot of reports that teams hate putting players on LTIR as it's a lot more complicated than we realize. If that's the case, I think Lou would trade a guy like Ladd for a guy who can actually play, even if he is overpaid.
