Bruins do not give up a 1st and JZ for a LW rental when the 'team need' is on the RW-side.

Someone please explain to me why kreider gets a first plus as a rental. Guys normally a mid 40 point winger. Really good player, but do we really think gms are champing at the bit to pull a Winnipeg?

Because at least half a dozen teams do it every season?
I’m a Rangers fan and I agree Kreider is nothing special - too streaky and can’t be relied on to score. More of a low 50’s points per season than mid 40’s (was injured 2 years ago or would have scored 50’s the last 3 years), but either way, a mid prospect and late first usually is the price for these kinds of rental guys. Sometimes it ends up being a second or a better prospect and sometimes conditions for contract extensions or playoff performance, but it happens every year and I doubt it stops this season.

Do we think the stone trade changed things? It might have

Honestly I keep expecting GM’s to stop doing this every year, and every year they keep doing it. It only takes one GM to make a move and then 3-4 more make a move also in response. It rarely helps the teams that make the big splash, but they do it anyway. St Louis didn’t do anything last year, Washington only added Kempny (but it was lauded as a great move) before that and they won the Cup. Common sense suggests they will stop mortgaging their futures for a statistically minimal increase in Cup chances, but NHL GM’s seem pretty stuck in their ways.

But Dorian had an elite 26 year old forward and was marketing him forever. He got a good prospect and a 2nd.

Brannstrom was Vegas’ top rated prospect, so I’m sure that’s why it was a 2nd and not a 1st. It’s possible that Stone made it known the only team he would extend with was Vegas and all the other teams rescinded their offers, as well. I’m not saying Kreider is even in the same area code as Stone. I think a reasonable return for Kreider would be a 2nd and a prospect that is projected to be a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman, or a 1st and a “project/fringe” prospect. It could be less yet, with so many teams in cap trouble. I think we are close to on the same page here, I just don’t see an end to GM’s trade deadline madness in the foreseeable future.

Also, Dorion is an idiot.
