You should probably aim a little hire for your dream d core. This whole "29 year old David Savard as the saviour ideal" is for a lack of a better word just wack.

I’m done listening to your opinions. I hate the fact that some leafs fan think we need to trade nylander for a top 2 dman. All we need is someone to do their job, stay at home and shut down the other team while Rielly can be who he wants to be and be a offensive d man. Give your head a shake, I love the fact your a leaf fan but you are like stuck in the mindset that we need to trade for a dman. That we can’t afford or we can’t make a trade for rn.

I’m fairly sure he’s been quite vocal in his support of keeping Nylander, not trading him. Adding Anderson and having the mid round pick go the other way and your deal looks more doable

Your realistic dream d core.

For a dream D core I'm thinking: Makar, Dahlin, Hughes, Hedman, Carlson, Josi, Hamilton, and Krug. not in any order the names that first popped in to my head first.

Toronto's defense is pretty weak. Nylander for a top pairing defense man is actually a very smart idea for Toronto. Team has plenty of offense already, but it is getting creamed defensively.

100% but a lot of Leafs fans on CF here think they can get a top pair guy for someone like Johnsson or Hyman while having that trade partner eat Ceci's cap hit; reality check, that's just not happening.

Never said it was. But this trade makes sense on both sides. The leafs badly need a lock down D man. Savard is in his prime and wants to win a cup, the jackets are going into a rebuild and they get a young speedy winger who is locked up long term. They can resign ceci if they want or they can let them go. They get a young d man who can develop. Imo it makes sense

So a 5th round pick who likely doesn't ever play in the NHL at least more then a handful of games, Ceci who is a cap dump and UFA not RFA so has literally no value to a team not competing, and a 4th round pick?

Here is the net, there is no way you get Savard for Johnsson and a 4th...not happening. Plenty of teams would give up more for Savard. Johnsson is on pace for 16 goals and 45 points, that's not returning a top line defender.

I get why Leaf fans like johnsson and theres a lot to like, but Leaf fans are overvaluing him quite a bit. He's not producing that well and obviously expendable as he's included in every other AGM on here lately.

I didn't say that necessarily, but it's going to take more then Johnsson and a 4th.

Here's the thing, when you stack the offense you're going to have a crap defense. When you stack the defense you're going to have a crap offense. Good teams create balance and Leafs aren't so something has to give up front.
