The value is probably close. I’m of the thought that it won’t take a full first to move backes. I think there’s roughly a 0% chance that Sweeney moves Heinen. He’s a pretty important player for them.

No reason why David Backes would waive from a potential cup contender, For a top 5 bottom feeding team. He's not waiving for a cellar dweller. He'll probably be bought out next summer.

A buy out doesn’t make any sense. It’s more likely he would be buried. If he’s choosing between a bottom dweller NHL team and the possibility of them retaining salary and trading him, or playing in the AHL, guess what he’ll pick?

Bus rides, or charter jets....hmmmm

whatever the value of Palmieri ends up being, he would be sick in Boston. As much as I dislike them, they would be fun to watch in the playoffs

Backes and a first seems to be ok (if you look at the Marleau-trade). But we have no interest in Moore since we let him go... So Palms remains a Devil.

I think it depends on what the cost would be to take him on. It's a deep draft, and there is no way Sweeney parts with a 1st for someone to take Backes deal. His restrictions lighten up next year and he is exposed to 50% of the teams. I think they would buy him out because burying him won't save them any cap space (minimal, 1m), so no real reason unless he is blocking deals.

4m cap hit in 2021
1m cap hit in 2022

My guess is Backes 25% retained (1.5 - 1 year) & one of (senyshyn, Kuhlman, Cehlarik, Zboril) and a 3rd for a 6th or 7th to whatever team (ott) and they buy him out. He signs with contender (STL) for min.

Bruins give up a decent RFA (who they won't be able to protect in expansion anyway & guys who moving down the depth chart) and a 3rd to gain 4.5m in cap space.

Marleau is not a good comp.
He said he wouldn't play for anyone but SJ or Tor.
His actually salary was 6m w/ 6m cap hit.
Backes' is 4m with 6m cap hit.

Most teams (that would take him on) don't really care about the cap hit and might need the cap hit. They don't want real money going out the door.

Toronto was desperate to get the deal done to sign their guys. They needed funds immediately to be in a position to match offers. They really didn't want to have another Nylander situation with Marner.

Although the $ would be nice for the Bruins, their cap is in much better shape.

How does a buyout not make sense?

Bury him his cap hit is 4.9. Buyout cap hit is 4m and 1m the following year. They will need every bit of cap space they can get. Buying him out gets an extra 1m next year over burying him.

Burying makes no sense. Yes trading him is a better option than buyout. But getting him to waive his NTC next year will be easier than finding someone willing to take him will be. Burying him to give him incentive to waive and running the risk of being stuck with him all year again is pointless.

Change Hienen to Senyshyn... That brings down the value a little which makes up for the 1st rounder, and the bruins arent giving up Hienen... I like Senyshyn, and he very well could be one of those players that doesnt play terrificly in the AHL but is significantly better at the NHL level

im wondering if the possibility is they move debrusk instead for a better piece. hes havinkind of a down year and I wonder if more of his success is due to krejci than his own ability.

Just kind of no to all of that. Why do you think he’s having a down year?

The obvious is the numbers are just off for where his production should be. he should be a guy who gets 25 goal with his minutes and krecji and pp time. The big thing is just the eye test. I think hes looked more engaged in the last week or so but hes been pretty invisible for too much of the season so far.

He looked to be in a funk for the first 7-8 games. He was dealing with an injury that kept him out of some games. He’s looked very good since then in my opinion.
