Why are you hiring Galchenyuk, and why are you giving him so much money and so much term? What has he done to deserve that contract?

Why do Oilers fans keep thinking they’re going to be able to sign Nurse to a max length deal for anything less than 7.5? Think it’ll be higher than that even if he signs for 8 years.

Because his closest comp is Josh Morrissey.

Because he's only on pace for about 35 points, and its unlikely he puts up much more than that this season. Nurse's comparables are Morrissey and Lindell IMO. He's more physical than Morrissey, but not as skilled with the puck. He's a good top 4 defenceman, he's a good puck carrier, but not a fantastic passer. Pretty good positioning and d awareness, but he still takes some bad penalties. I think if he only puts up around 35 points, paying him 6-6.5 million is very in like with the market value right now.

Nurse will get between 6.0-6.5 on a long term deal.

The price is fair but I don’t think he takes it for 8 years. 3 or 4 year bridge is more likely with the cap going up in a few years

Not really a "bridge deal" if it takes you to free agency... But I expect 6 years probably

He already had his bridge - and he didn't want to bridge at that time anyhow, he wanted a long-term deal. He had to take a bridge because there wasn't enough cap space for a $5M contract at that time. Again, Josh Morrissey is his closest comp, if you look at their bridge deals Nurse signed the day after Morrissey did for $50k more so even his agent targets the Morrissey number for Nurse. I expect Nurse's next deal to be long-term (7 or 8 years) with an AAV very close to Morrissey's $6.25M. That's a reasonable expectation.

The big difference between Nurse and Morrisey is PP time. Nurse will get 35+ points with no PP time while they continue to dump -15 Klefbom on the first PP. Nurse has 12 even strength points, while Klefbom has 8 and leads the team in ice time. Morrisey has 10 even strength points and has no physicality. Nurse signed a team friendly deal last time. Not next time; worth well over $7MM for 8 years.

Galchenyuk averages about 50 points a season, the going rate for a winger is roughly 1 mill per 10 points. It's also Edmonton so we have to overpay by a bit in order to bring in free agents.

He averages less than 45 per season, he got 41 last year and is on pace to score 7 goals and just 35 total points this year. SEVEN GOALS! That's not worth $5.5M for 5 years!
