Any team could overpay for a Tyson Barrie at $1.5 mil

I don’t care how much you retain for ceci, he isn’t getting you a second rounder.

I'm a Toronto follower if not fan, and a third of a season of Tyson Barrie isn't worth 5 seasons of Kristian Vesalainen, 3 seasons of Sami Niku and a first-round pick, even at $1.25MM.

Plus the Penguins have no need for him. They already have Marino, Letang and Schultz who are far better than him. Even Johnson has been superior to Ceci.

Maybe he meant "He's not that bad a player . . ."

I would be happy with Niku and a pick. Hopefully a 1st.

Way too big of package returned for Barrie/Spezza. Ceci trade might be a fair return. Too bad so many CapFriendly don't actually watch some NHL games. It could certainly be argued Ceci has been superior to Barrie, but somehow so many folks decided in July that Ceci was just a bad Dman and Barrie was actually a good one.

Does it really need to be spelled out for you? Because he’s not good enough at hockey. Want backes for a 2nd rounder? Didn’t think so.

Ceci gets a bad rap 1. Because he's a leaf so he's already blasted on cap friendly. 2. The 4.5 is high for what he brings. except at the deadline it's half and teams have always paid well for D depth going into the playoffs, if Leafs are sellers they have 3 d man that will bring a more than decent return

No one is giving you a 2nd for Ceci. This is pure fantasy.

Nothing wrong with becoming sellers if that's what the situation warrants. There's no point in pretending that this season should be something it isn't just cause the bookies picked the leafs as a a top 5 team at the beginning of the season. It is what it is right now, with time to turn it around if they get it together in short order. If not, oh well, sell the ufas, have a look at some Marlies and restock the cupboards to move forward.

Tyson Barrie at 50% retained, a second time around, brings something good back. So does Muzzin.

I can see him getting a return, 50% retained a slightly better one, but he isn't worth a 2020 second even at 700k for 8 years lol, he's not THAT good

Never said he was worth a second just said he was worth something and there will be teams that are willing to pay whether it be a 3rd a 4th or what have you. Leafs took on Ceci to be released of Zitsev which all considered has worked out just fine for them

Backes can’t play, Ceci can. Also Backes makes more for longer... think you missed what happened here...

They’re both trash that are incapable of receiving a second round pick in return. You’re being absurdly obtuse.

Retained 50% I could see a 2nd or 3rd with a later pick going back. Would depend on the teams need. A lot of teams will be looking for depth on defence. Especially with injuries.

Just look at the two things layers you are comparing. Backes is what 35? Making 6m with another year left and has 2 points this. The other is playing top 4 minutes and is 25 and a ufa.

You need to let go of the backes thing. Substitute any horrible NHL player. Horrible players don’t get a 2nd round pick back.
