That's what San Jose did when they acquire Erik Karlsson. Had to make the deal more complex so that it doesn't look like a scam.

I think I pull the trigger if it's Merk+Sasha for Hall straight up with 50% retained. Ideally I'd have inside scoop before doing so that he wants to play in SJ and he'd settle for resigning to a 5yr $7mil aav deal.
